This book attempts to couple control engineering with modern developments in science, through the concept of entropy. Such disciplines as intelligent machines, economics, manufacturing, environmental systems, waste etc. can be favorably affected and their performance can be improved or their catastrophic effects minimized. Entropy is used as the unifying measure of the various, seemingly disjoint, disciplines to represent the cost of producing work that improves the standard of living, both in engineering and in science. Modeling is done through probabilistic methods, thus establishing the irreversibility of the processes involved. This is in accordance with the modern view of science. In addition, the behavior of control for an arbitrary but fixed controller away from the optimal (equilibrium) has been obtained, the analytic expression of which should lead to chaotic solutions. The control activity is explained, based on the principle that control is making a system do what we want it to do. This helps to relate control theory with the sciences.

This monograph is concerned with the design of feedback controllers for linear multivariable systems, which are robust to system uncertainty. System uncertainty can be realistically represented by including perturbations with bounded H?-norm, and this is the approach taken here. For a given H?-norm bound, there is a family of robustly stabilizing controllers, and the central question in this book is which of these controllers to choose. One choice to take is that which minimizes the enthropy of the resulting closed loop transfer function, and the derivation and properties of this solution occupies most of this monograph. Explicit formulae are obtained for the minimum enthropy solution, which is a precisely defined compromise between the Linear Quadratic Gaussian optimal solution and the H?-optimal solution. The book will be appropriate for graduate classes requiring only a first course in state-space methods, and some elementary knowledge of H? control and Linear Quadratic Gaussian control.

This book takes the topic of H-infinity control as a point of departure, and pursues an improved controller design suggested in the mainstream of robust control. Using stochastic methods, the book is important to the circuits and systems community, alongside researchers in networking systems, operator theory and linear multivariable control.

Invariance Entropy For Deterministic Control Systems written by Christoph Kawan and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-10-02 with Mathematics categories.

This monograph provides an introduction to the concept of invariance entropy, the central motivation of which lies in the need to deal with communication constraints in networked control systems. For the simplest possible network topology, consisting of one controller and one dynamical system connected by a digital channel, invariance entropy provides a measure for the smallest data rate above which it is possible to render a given subset of the state space invariant by means of a symbolic coder-controller pair. This concept is essentially equivalent to the notion of topological feedback entropy introduced by Nair, Evans, Mareels and Moran (Topological feedback entropy and nonlinear stabilization. IEEE Trans. Automat. Control 49 (2004), 1585–1597). The book presents the foundations of a theory which aims at finding expressions for invariance entropy in terms of dynamical quantities such as Lyapunov exponents. While both discrete-time and continuous-time systems are treated, the emphasis lies on systems given by differential equations.

Nonlinear Power Flow Control Design written by Rush D. Robinett III and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-08-10 with Science categories.

This book presents an innovative control system design process motivated by renewable energy electric grid integration problems. The concepts developed result from the convergence of research and development goals which have important concepts in common: exergy flow, limit cycles, and balance between competing power flows. A unique set of criteria is proposed to design controllers for a class of nonlinear systems. A combination of thermodynamics with Hamiltonian systems provides the theoretical foundation which is then realized in a series of connected case studies. It allows the process of control design to be viewed as a power flow control problem, balancing the power flowing into a system against that being dissipated within it and dependent on the power being stored in it – an interplay between kinetic and potential energies. Human factors and the sustainability of self-organizing systems are dealt with as advanced topics.

Stochastic Processes Estimation And Control written by George N. Saridis and has been published by Wiley-Interscience this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1995-04-03 with Mathematics categories.

In this, the first introductory book on stochastic processes in twenty years, leading theoretician George Saridis provides a modern innovative approach that applies the most recent advances in probabilistic processes to such areas as communications and robotics technology. Stochastic Processes, Estimation, and Control: The Entropy Approach is designed as a text for graduate courses in dynamic programming and stochastic control, stochastic processes, or applied probability in the engineering or mathematical/computational science departments, and as a guide for the practicing engineer and researcher it offers a lucid discussion of parameter estimation based on least square techniques, an in-depth investigation of the estimation of the states of a stochastic linear and nonlinear dynamic system, and a modified derivation of the linear-quadratic Gaussian optimal control problem. Professor Saridis's presentation of estimation and control theory is thorough, but avoids the use of advanced mathematics. A new theory of approximation of the optimal solution for nonlinear stochastic systems is presented as a general engineering tool, and the whole area of stochastic processes, estimation, and control is recast using entropy as a measure.
