Following an initial introduction to the twin topics of evolutionary robotics and humanoid robotics, we discussed their recent convergence in the new field of evolutionary humanoid robotics. After presenting a survey of recent work in this field by other researchers, we introduced our own work in the area of evolving bipedal locomotion in a simulated highDOF humanoid. After a brief discussion on the important topic of benchmarking future mobile robot performances we introduced our current hardware platform, and the implementation of locomotion, evolved in simulation using the Webots simulator, on the Bioloid platform for an 18-DOF humanoid robot. Advantages of our approach include its adaptability and the ability to generate life-like behaviours without the provision of detailed domain knowledge. While certain questions remain to be addressed, including the potential scalability of this approach to the generation of highly complex behaviours, the field of evolutionary humanoid robotics should prove a useful and powerful tool for future designers of humanoid robots.

Computers People And Thought written by Malachy Eaton and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-09-22 with Computers categories.

In this book the author discusses synergies between computers and thought, related to the field of Artificial Intelligence; between people and thought, leading to questions of consciousness and our existence as humans; and between computers and people, leading to the recent remarkable advances in the field of humanoid robots. He then looks toward the implications of intelligent 'conscious' humanoid robots with superior intellects, able to operate in our human environments. After presenting the basic engineering components and supporting logic of computer systems, and giving an overview of the contributions of pioneering scientists in the domains of computing, logic, and robotics, in the core of the book the author examines the meaning of thought and intelligence in the context of specific tasks and successful AI approaches. In the final part of the book he introduces related societal and ethical implications. The book will be a useful accompanying text in courses on artificial intelligence, robotics, intelligent systems, games, and evolutionary computing. It will also be valuable for general readers and historians of technology.

What if the development of life, the birth of the earth, and the emergence of humanity were all part of an intricate cosmic design—timed with precision across billions of years? In The Rational Universe Evolving for Humans, the author explores the profound connections between the physical universe and the natural forces that shaped it. From the Big Bang to the emergence of modern civilization, this book uncovers the hidden patterns that have governed the cosmos from its earliest moments. Blending science with philosophy, the author challenges readers to consider the “time effect”—the precise timing of every event that led to the world of today. Could it all have been coincidence, or is there a deeper logic at play in the natural world? Whether one is a curious scientist, a lover of philosophy, or someone seeking a deeper understanding of our place in the universe, The Rational Universe Evolving for Humans offers a compelling new perspective on the origins of human beings and civilization and the forces that continue to shape this world.

M. C. Roco and W.S. Bainbridge In the early decades of the 21st century, concentrated efforts can unify science based on the unity of nature, thereby advancing the combination of nanotechnology, biotechnology, information technology, and new technologies based in cognitive science. With proper attention to ethical issues and societal needs, converging in human abilities, societal technologies could achieve a tremendous improvement outcomes, the nation's productivity, and the quality of life. This is a broad, cross cutting, emerging and timely opportunity of interest to individuals, society and humanity in the long term. The phrase "convergent technologies" refers to the synergistic combination of four major "NBIC" (nano-bio-info-cogno) provinces of science and technology, each of which is currently progressing at a rapid rate: (a) nanoscience and nanotechnology; (b) biotechnology and biomedicine, including genetic engineering; (c) information technology, including advanced computing and communications; (d) cognitive science, including cognitive neuroscience. Timely and Broad Opportunity. Convergence of diverse technologies is based on material unity at the nanoscale and on technology integration from that scale.
