Developmental Biology In Prokaryotes And Lower Eukaryotes written by Tomás González Villa and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-07-31 with Science categories.

‘Developmental biology’ is widely understood as processes, which mainly concern embryonic animal development and differentiation of cells and tissue. It is also often defined as the timeline for the evolutionary developmental biology of eukaryotic multicellular higher organisms, i.e., plants and animals. The development of prokaryotes and lower eukaryotes in contrary has been neglected for a long time, which was the motivation for publishing this book. This book highlights one of Darwin's most important findings: Evolution is a creative, but not a conscious process. It also illustrates that this concept does not only apply to multicellular higher organisms, but affects every form of life. The reader shall find complex biochemical and genetic pathways of bacteria, yeasts or protozoa, comparable to those exhibited by plants or animals. The molecular mechanisms of dramatic genome rearrangements, recombination and horizontal gene transfer that are responsible for evolutionary adaptations are discussed. Additionally, the book covers bacteria of the genera Myxobacteriales and Caulobacterales, which are able to develop tissue-like cellular organization. The morphogenesis of entomopathogenic fungi and the endosymbiont theory are also addressed. The book is a useful introduction to the field for junior scientists, interested in bacteriology, protistology and fungal development. It is also an interesting read for advanced scientists, giving them a broader view of the field beyond their area of specialization.

Viruses Of Fungi And Simple Eukaryotes written by Y. Koltin and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1988-04-29 with Science categories.

Viruses of Fungi and Simple Eukaryotes focuses on the developments in and experimental approaches to the study of fungi and simple eukaryotic viruses. Emphasizing molecular biology and genetics, the book provides the first comprehensive description of lower eukaryotic viruses. Featuring the work of more than 45 international authorities, the book includes more than 1,000 citations, numerous illustrations, tables, and micrographs. It discusses both retrovirus and reovirus systems in simple eukaryotes and examines how simple eukaryotes can serve as important models for research in eukaryotic molecular and cell biology. The book also covers a diverse group of RNA and DNA viruses, describes possible applications of fungi and simple eukaryotes to biotechnological, agricultural, and medicinal products, and explains the significance of lower eukaryotic viruses to biological control. Key topics covered include protein secretion and processing, nucleic acid enzymology, yeast biology, plant pathology, and human pathogenic yeast killer systems.

Endosymbionts In Paramecium written by Masahiro Fujishima and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-06-12 with Science categories.

Endosymbiosis is a primary force in eukaryotic cell evolution. In order to understand the molecular mechanisms involved in this mutualistic relationship, experiments to reproduce endosymbiosis are indispensable. The ciliate "Paramecium" is an ideal host for performing such studies. Topics presented in this volume are: the origins of algal and bacterial symbionts in "Paramecium", the diversity of endosymbiotic bacteria, such as "Holospora" bacteria and especially "Chlorella" species, as well as the infection and maintenance processes. The metabolic control, the regulation of circadian rhythms and photobiological aspects of the mutualistic association, as well as the killer effect of "Paramecium" and its causative agents are further points discussed.

Phenotypic Variation In Populations written by Avril Woodhead and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with Medical categories.

The human race has enormous he terogenei ty, founded on genetic and environmental sources. Variability, therefore, is a vital dimension in any consideration of human risk assessment. In the estimation of risks, current methods of extrapolation based upon converting the response of a median man are inadequate, as they ignore phenotypic variation and there fore, susceptible subgroups. There is a growing literature defining the extent of human variation in normal populations; thus, the normal young adult population may have 10-20% known hyperreactors. How far can we ignore human variability in risk assessment? Should we be concerned with susceptible groups, and how can we modify the risk assessment analysis accordingly? The aim of our meeting was to bring together experts from the fields of human epidemiology, toxicology, aging, genetics, carcino genesis and teratology, and to provide a forum in which we might assimi late knowledge of human heterogeneity as a coherent whole. Since the resolution and obligations of risk assessment, in the last analysis, are a political process, we also involved representatives from the legal field, the unions, and the regulatory agencies. We are most grateful for financial support from the National Institute on Aging; the u. S. Environmental Protection Agency; the U. S. Department of Energy; FDA - National Center for Toxicological Research; The Council for Tobacco Research-USA, Inc; Johnson and Johnson; Merck Sharp and Dohme Research Laboratories; and Associated Universities, Inc. Centrosomes play an integral role in the growth of cells and the ultimate development of many animals, and sometimes plants. In addition to the normal growth of cells, centrosomes can also play a key role in the spread of cancer and are of increased interest to both the genetics and oncology communities. Volume 49 of Current Topics in Developmental Biology will present all known research surrounding the centrosome, across a variety of systems, will be well referenced, and speculate where the research is headed. - Discusses centrosomes and cancer, centrosomes and early development, and molecular biology of the centrosome - Heavily illustrated, with many color figures - Chapters written by international leaders in the field
