Faith without works is dead. “So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.” Are you one who claims to know Jesus Christ? Are you one who can see and one who can hear? The Lord is calling you as His disciple, to walk as He walked, and do as He did. As the prodigal son, forsaking it all, willing to go to his Father just as a hired servant; we are told this, ?Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.? I would rather be least in the kingdom of Heaven than not there at all. Wouldn't you?

Nothing is more important than what a person believes about Jesus Christ. To understand Christ correctly is to understand the very heart of God, Scripture, and the gospel. To get to the core of this belief, this latest volume in the Foundations of Evangelical Theology series lays out a systematic summary of Christology from philosophical, biblical, and historical perspectives—concluding that Jesus Christ is God the Son incarnate, both fully divine and fully human. Readers will learn to better know, love, trust, and obey Christ—unashamed to proclaim him as the only Lord and Savior. Part of the Foundations of Evangelical Theology series.

Is it possible for a child to get saved? Well, this question may seem to have an obvious answer. However, the implications of this answer are not as simple as the answer. Why? Because, as the Prince of Preachers noted, many believers and even pastors act and treat those children who sincerely desire to follow Christ as if their answer to the question would be totally different. In this book, Spurgeon diagnoses a disease that was and is widespread in the Evangelical community - child salvation not taken seriously - and then offers biblical and practical advice on how to avoid this, and how to use biblical wisdom and discernment to lead our children to Christ while at the same time on how to avoid giving our children a false assurance of salvation. This book has been originally published in 1897. This edition has been edited for modern readers, typeset for eBook readers, and proofread. About the author: Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834-1892) was born in Kelvedon, Essex, England. He converted to Christianity in 1850 at a small Methodist chapel, and shortly after that he began his own ministry of preaching and teaching, and preached more than 500 sermons by the age of 20. During his ministry, he preached to more than 10 million people, wrote tens of books, and published his sermons in over 25,000 copies on a weekly basis. Charles Spurgeon suffered from poor health and he died on January 31, 1892, and was buried in London.

Living Out the Word Made Flesh “Sixty years ago I found myself distracted,” Eugene Peterson wrote. “A chasm had developed between the way I was preaching from the pulpit and my deepest convictions on what it meant to be a pastor.” And so began Peterson’s journey to live and teach a life of congruence—congruence between preaching and living, between what we do and the way we do it, between what is written in Scripture and how we live out that truth. Nothing captures the biblical foundation for this journey better than Peterson’s teachings over his twenty-nine years as a pastor. As Kingfishers Catch Fire offers a never-before-published collection of these teachings to anyone longing for a richer, truer spirituality. Peterson’s strikingly beautiful prose and deeply grounded insights usher us into a new understanding of how to live out the good news of the Word made flesh. This is one man’s compelling quest to discover not only how to be a pastor but how to be a human being.

From the eighth to the fifteenth centuries, Bede's authority as a scriptural exegete was second only to that of the Doctors of the Latin Church. His influence was enormous. Upending Christianity's popular notion of Jesus the comforter, the good shepherd, the Lord, and the Savior, this completely new exploration of Mark's Life of Jesus reexamines the image presented in this earliest of the New Testament gospels—the mysterious stranger, the singular, abandoned, and solitary figure—and rethinks the current role of Western culture through a radically altered view of Christianity. The existential Jesus has no interest in sin, and his focus is not on an afterlife. He is anti–church, anti–establishment, anti–family, and anti–community; a teacher, with himself his only student, he gestures enigmatically from within his own torturous experience, inviting the reader to walk in his shoes and ask the question, Who am I? This book argues that Jesus is the West's great teacher on the nature of being. Incorporating a new translation of the Gospel of Mark from its original Greek, this radical reinterpretation identifies the philosophical and cultural significance of Jesus in the modern world, based on his life, actions, and reflections.
