Schulpolitik, Note: 1,0, Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die Ergebnisse der ersten PISA-Studie 2000 schockierten die deutsche Bevölkerung und führten zu einer kontroversen und intensiven Diskussion über das deutsche Bildungssystem: Die Kompetenzen der deutschen Schülerinnen und Schüler (SuS) lagen im Vergleich mit anderen OECD-Staaten deutlich unter dem Durchschnitt und waren stark von der sozialen Herkunft der SuS abhängig. Im Vergleich mit dem deutschen Halbtagsschulsystem erreichten Länder mit einem Ganztagsschulsystem bessere Platzierungen bei der PISA-Studie, sodass in der bildungspolitischen Debatte die Halbtagsschule als Grund für die schlechten Ergebnisse Deutschlands gesehen wurde. Infolgedessen wurde von der Kultusministerkonferenz (KMK) neben sechs weiteren Handlungsfeldern festgelegt, den „Ausbau von schulischen und außerschulischen Ganztagsangeboten“ vorzunehmen. Gestützt wurde dieses Vorhaben von dem „Investitionsprogramm Zukunft Bildung und Betreuung“ (IZBB), in dessen Rahmen die Bundesregierung im Zeitraum von 2003 bis 2009 vier Milliarden Euro für den Auf- und Ausbau von Ganztagsschulen bereitstellte. In diesem Zusammenhang wurde mit dem Ausbau der Ganztagsschule die Hoffnung verbunden, die durch PISA 2000 herausgestellten Problematiken zu beheben. Es wurde eine adäquate Förderung aller SuS, eine bessere Vereinbarkeit von Familie und Beruf sowie die Kompensation sozialer Ungleichheit im Bildungserfolg durch ein verändertes Verhältnis von Schule und Familie angestrebt. Von den genannten Hoffnungen, die mit der Ganztagsschule verbunden werden, wird sich in dieser Arbeit auf die erhoffte Kompensation sozialer Ungleichheit fokussiert und untersucht, ob Ganztagsschulen tatsächlich durch ein verändertes Verhältnis von Familie und Schule der Reproduktion sozialer Ungleichheit im deutschen Bildungssystem entgegenwirken können.

Die 2006 als Vordiplomsarbeit angefertigte und 2014 als Buch veröffentlichte Studie fragt danach, ob Ganztagsschulen einen Beitrag zur Bewältigung der sozialen Ungleichheit im deutschen Bildungswesen leisten können. Die Arbeit weist zwei Schwerpunkte auf. Der erste Teil fokussiert das Ausmaß und die Ursachen sozialer Bildungsungleichheiten in Deutschland. Dazu werden die bildungssoziologischen Ansätze von Raymond Boudon und Pierre Bourdieu kontrastiert und in der Auseinandersetzung mit dem Forschungsstand familiale Sozialisation und institutionelle Strukturen als wichtige Ursachenkomplexe herausgearbeitet. Der zweite Teil der Studie wendet sich der Ganztagsschule zu. Nach einer kurzen Skizze ihrer Entwicklung und Expansion in Deutschland wird ihr Potential zum Abbau sozialer Bildungsungleichheiten betrachtet. Dafür werden zentrale Charakteristika der Ganztagsschule aus der bildungssoziologischen Perspektive danach befragt, ob von ihnen eine Verringerung sozialer Bildungsungleichheiten zu erwarten ist. Dabei zeigt die Studie, dass die Ganztagsschule durchaus die Bildungschancen sozial benachteiligter Kinder verbessern kann, sie jedoch nicht das Wundermittel ist, als das sie in mancher Diskussion dargestellt wird.
