Bacterial surface or secreted polysaccharides are molecules that can function as barriers to protect bacterial cells against environmental stresses, as well as act as adhesins or recognition molecules. In some cases, these molecules are immunodominant antigens eliciting a vigorous immune response, while in other cases the expression of polysaccharides camouflages the bacteria from the immune system. Until recently, most studies on the enzymatic steps and regulation of these molecules were performed on the enteric gram negative bacteria Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhimurium. With the advent of modern bacterial genetics, techniques such as construction and characterization of polysaccharide mutants, cloning of genes and complementation of these mutations, and expression of polysaccharides in heterologous bacterial hosts has prompted investigations into the roles and functions of these molecules for many different bacteria. Here, we present the genetic analysis of polysaccharides from a number of bacteria pathogenic to humans and one symbiotic with plants in hopes that similarities in the experimental approaches as well as finding s from such investigations may lead to a general understanding of polysaccharide synthesis and regulation in various bacteria. Bacterial Polysaccharides Steroidal Glycosides Antigens written by Geeta Karki and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-10-16 with categories.

The book "Bacterial Polysaccharides Steroidal Glycosides Antigens" by Geeta Karki is a comprehensive guide to the complex world of bacterial biochemistry, microbiology, and immunology. This book covers various aspects of bacterial polysaccharides, steroidal glycosides, and antigens, which are essential for understanding bacterial pathogenesis and immunity. The book begins by exploring the fundamental concepts of bacterial cell walls, lipopolysaccharides, and other critical components of the bacterial structure. It then delves into the immunogenicity of these components and the use of adjuvants in vaccines. Structural biology and serotyping, especially O-antigens, are also discussed in detail. The book also explores the pathogenesis of bacterial infections caused by Gram-negative bacteria and their capsules and lipoo ligosaccharides. The host-pathogen interactions and the immune response to these infections are explained in detail. The biosynthesis of bacterial polysaccharides, glycoconjugates, and carbohydrate-based vaccines is also covered in this book. The antigenic variation and bacterial virulence mechanisms that aid in immune evasion are also discussed. The book provides insight into the molecular biology of bacterial genetics and the evolution of bacteria. It also covers the use of glycomics, glycoengineering, and glycan arrays to develop glycosyltransferases, carbohydrate-protein conjugates, glycopeptides, and glycolipids for better understanding bacterial adhesion and mucosal immunity. Overall, this book is an essential reference for researchers, students, and professionals in the fields of microbiology, immunology, and biochemistry. It provides a comprehensive overview of bacterial polysaccharides, steroidal glycosides, and antigens and their roles in bacterial pathogenesis and immunity

The Complex World Of Polysaccharides written by Desiree Nedra Karunaratne and has been published by BoD – Books on Demand this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-10-31 with Science categories.

The complex world of polysaccharides is a compilation of the characteristics of a variety of polysaccharides from plants, animals and microorganisms. The diversity of these polysaccharides arises from the structural variations and the monosaccharide content which is under genetic control. The chemical and physical properties have made them useful in many pharmaceutical, food and industrial applications. These properties of the polysaccharides determine their biological activity and their function in various applications. The role played by polysaccharides in preservation and protection of food, as carriers of nutrients and drugs, their ability to interact with molecules both for efficient delivery as well as improving textures of food colloids and their use as therapeutics are some of the functions discussed.
