Se llamaba Gracia Cabrera Gómez, pero el maestro Juan Solano, uno de sus compositores más fértiles, la bautizó artísticamente como Gracia Montes (1936-2022). Una de los exponentes más singulares de la canción española, que eso es en realidad la canción andaluza, nació en la localidad de Lora del Río y fallecio en Sevilla a los 86 años. Desde muy joven llamó la atención por su personalidad en el escenario y la calidad y calidez de su voz. Dice Daniel Pineda Novo, buen amigo de la cantante, que con su repertorio se podría reconstruir el mapa de Andalucía: cantaba fandangos de Huelva, verdiales de Málaga, sevillanas y romeras. “La conocí muy joven. Dos hermanos suyos estudiaban internos en el Claret, Juan era de mi curso y Manolín, que ya murió, era futbolista”. Esta loreña nacida el primer día de marzo de 1936, cuatro meses antes de que estalle la guerra civil, intervino en dos películas que en cierta forma representaban a las dos Españas. Estuvo dirigida por un cineasta franquista Jose Luis Saenz de Heredia en Historias de la radio, y por Juan Antonio Bardem, que perteneció al Partido Comunista, en Muerte de un ciclista. Rafael de León la admiraba y le compuso algunas canciones, entre ellas la popular La Feria. El Ayuntamiento de Lora del Río, su localidad natal, que colabora en este libro la nombró hija predilecta . Siempre tuvo el afecto y la admiración de las compañeras de profesión. Con Juanita Reina, generacionalmente una de sus maestras, veraneaba en Chipiona. Allí las oía cantar a ambas desde la baranda de su casa una jovencísima Rocío Jurado, ocho años más joven que Gracia Montes, a la que siempre tuvo como una de las mejores representantes de la canción andaluza.
