“I believe that the authors have written a first-class book which can be used for a second or third year graduate level course in the subject... Researchers working in the area will certainly use the book as a standard reference....” SIAM Review (Review of the First Edition) “This book is devoted to one of the fastest developing fields in modern control theory---the so-called 'H-infinity optimal control theory'... In the authors' opinion 'the theory is now at a stage where it can easily be incorporated into a second-level graduate course in a control curriculum'. It seems that this book justifies this claim.” Mathematical Reviews (Review of the First Edition) “This book is a second edition of this very well-known text on H-infinity theory...This topic is central to modern control and hence this definitive book is highly recommended to anyone who wishes to catch up with this important theoretical development in applied mathematics and control.” Short Book Reviews (Review of the Second Edition)

One of the major concentrated activities of the past decade in control theory has been the development of the so-called "HOO-optimal control theory," which addresses the issue of worst-case controller design for linear plants subject to unknown additive disturbances, including problems of disturbance attenuation, model matching, and tracking. The mathematical OO symbol "H " stands for the Hardy space of all complex-valued functions of a complex variable, which are analytic and bounded in the open right half complex plane. For a linear (continuous-time, time-invariant) plant, oo the H norm of the transfer matrix is the maximum of its largest singular value over all frequencies. OO Controller design problems where the H norm plays an important role were initially formulated by George Zames in the early 1980's, in the context of sensitivity reduction in linear plants, with the design problem posed as a mathematical optimization problem using an (HOO) operator norm. Thus formulated originally in the frequency domain, the main tools used during the early phases of research on this class of problems have been operator and approximation theory, spectral factorization, and (Youla) parametrization, leading initially to rather complicated (high-dimensional) OO optimal or near-optimal (under the H norm) controllers.

Adaptive Critic Control With Robust Stabilization For Uncertain Nonlinear Systems written by Ding Wang and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-08-10 with Technology & Engineering categories.
This book reports on the latest advances in adaptive critic control with robust stabilization for uncertain nonlinear systems. Covering the core theory, novel methods, and a number of typical industrial applications related to the robust adaptive critic control field, it develops a comprehensive framework of robust adaptive strategies, including theoretical analysis, algorithm design, simulation verification, and experimental results. As such, it is of interest to university researchers, graduate students, and engineers in the fields of automation, computer science, and electrical engineering wishing to learn about the fundamental principles, methods, algorithms, and applications in the field of robust adaptive critic control. In addition, it promotes the development of robust adaptive critic control approaches, and the construction of higher-level intelligent systems.

Stabilizing And Optimizing Control For Time Delay Systems written by Wook Hyun Kwon and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-07-06 with Technology & Engineering categories.
Stabilizing and Optimizing Control for Time-Delay Systems introduces three important classes of stabilizing controls for time-delay systems: non-optimal (without performance criteria); suboptimal (including guaranteed costs); and optimal controls. Each class is treated in detail and compared in terms of prior control structures. State- and input-delayed systems are considered. The book provides a unified mathematical framework with common notation being used throughout. Receding-horizon, or model predictive, linear quadratic (LQ), linear-quadratic-Gaussian and H∞ controls for time-delay systems are chosen as optimal stabilizing controls. Cost monotonicity is investigated in order to guarantee the asymptotic stability of closed-loop systems operating with such controls. The authors use guaranteed LQ and H∞ controls as representative sub-optimal methods; these are obtained with pre-determined control structures and certain upper bounds of performance criteria. Non-optimal stabilizing controls are obtained with predetermined control structures but with no performance criteria. Recently developed inequalities are exploited to obtain less conservative results. To facilitate computation, the authors use linear matrix inequalities to represent gain matrices for non-optimal and sub-optimal stabilizing controls, and all the initial conditions of coupled differential Riccati equations of optimal stabilizing controls. Numerical examples are provided with MATLAB® codes (downloadable from http://extras.springer.com/) to give readers guidance in working with more difficult optimal and suboptimal controls. Academic researchers studying control of a variety of real processes in chemistry, biology, transportation, digital communication networks and mechanical systems that are subject to time delays will find the results presented in Stabilizing and Optimizing Control for Time-Delay Systems to be helpful in their work. Practitioners working in related sectors of industry will also find this book to be of use in developing real-world control systems for the many time-delayed processes they encounter.

Modelling And Control In Solid Mechanics written by A. M. Khludnev and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1997 with Contact mechanics categories.
This book covers the boundary value problems for a wide range of mathematical models of the mechanics of deformable bodies, in particular, the boundary value problems concerning plates and shells, crack theory, and elastoplastic bodies. An essential feature of the discussed boundary value problems is the availability of the inequality type constraints imposed on solutions such as the impenetration condition for contact problems, the yield plasticity condition, etc. As a consequence, the presence of free boundaries is typical of the boundary value problems concerned. The objective of the book is to display some new methods of analyzing such problems, as well as to perform research on new models evolved from engineering practice. Readers will find a variety of new mathematical models describing some contact problems for plates and shells, an equilibrium of plates involving cracks, etc. Furthermore, some new mathematical methods are presented which were specially developed by the authors to study the problems concerned. These help to convey a comprehensive picture of the present state of mathematical problems on the free-boundary elasticity and plasticity theory. The book is intended for postgraduates, scientists and engineers.and for Students interested in problems of modelling and optimal control in the mechanics of deformable bodies.

Foundations Of Deterministic And Stochastic Control written by Jon H. Davis and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with Mathematics categories.
Control theory has applications to a number of areas in engineering and communication theory. This introductory text on the subject is fairly self-contained, and consists of a wide range of topics that include realization problems, linear-quadratic optimal control, stability theory, stochastic modeling and recursive estimation algorithms in communications and control, and distributed system modeling. In the early chapters methods based on Wiener--Hopf integral equations are utilized. The fundamentals of both linear control systems as well as stochastic control are presented in a unique way so that the methods generalize to a useful class of distributed parameter and nonlinear system models. The control of distributed parameter systems (systems governed by PDEs) is based on the framework of linear quadratic Gaussian optimization problems. Additionally, the important notion of state space modeling of distributed systems is examined. Basic results due to Gohberg and Krein on convolution are given and many results are illustrated with some examples that carry throughout the text. The standard linear regulator problem is studied in the continuous and discrete time cases, followed by a discussion of (dual) filtering problems. Later chapters treat the stationary regulator and filtering problems using a Wiener--Hopf approach. This leads to spectral factorization problems and useful iterative algorithms that follow naturally from the methods employed. The interplay between time and frequency domain approaches is emphasized. "Foundations of Deterministic and Stochastic Control" is geared primarily towards advanced mathematics and engineering students in various disciplines.
