Building blocks are practical materials for playing, learning and working at kindergartens, schools, universities and companies. How did building blocks, which were primarily established as toys for children, come to be practical materials used in professional and educational settings? This study explores the historical implications of particular sets of building blocks in the interdisciplinary consolidation and transformation of techniques, materials, discourses and subjects. By mapping the genealogy of building blocks from Fröbel's »gifts« to their current systematization as interlocked blocks, this study proposes that building blocks should be understood not exclusively as concrete objects, but as the materiality of a combinatorial program, which delineates a modular system characterized by a code of composition, a context-neutrality and a semantic component.

"The categories commonly mobilized to think about education have long been associated with the notion of the nation state, and functioned as obstacles, rather than resources, for our understanding of how globalization plays out in this particular field. In the last two decades, both social theory and comparative politics have attempted to overcome these limitations in their own way. Social theory increasingly acknowledged education as a global phenomenon. Theories have been developed to describe a global society evolving across borders. They show how, through processes that remain debated (cultural isomorphism, capitalism, functional differentiation), a number of structural and semantic evolutions have spread across education systems. Part I of this Handbook is dedicated to presenting, discussing, and comparing three such theories of globalization and their implications for our understanding of education and education policy. Comparative politics has for its part concerned itself with developing a more complex, less unified and 'transformationalist' view of the State by acknowledging the fragmentation and distribution of its functions among distinct domains and levels. Part II gravitates around this global constellation, with chapters focusing on global reforms, norms and ideas put forward by supranational organizations, on international accountability processes and on the ways in which nation states or local actors adopt, implement or resist global ideas and reforms. The two Parts reflect these disciplinary approaches to the relation between globalization and education. Together, these two approaches seek to provide a comprehensive overview of how globalization and education interact to result in distinct and varying outcomes across world regions"--

Der 2009 fertiggestellte Bundesländerübergreifende BildungsRahmenPlan (BRPL) dokumentiert den eigenständigen Bildungsauftrag elementarpädagogischer Einrichtungen in Österreich und betont somit deren Bedeutsamkeit für die Bildungsbiographie von Mädchen und Jungen. Seit 2010 wird der BRPL implementiert und dies stellt für alle im Prozess involvierten Personen eine Herausforderung dar. Dazu zählen die PädagogInnen in der Praxis, den Ausbildungsstätten und die in den Bundesländern mit der Implementierung Betrauten. Die hier vorliegenden Forschungsergebnisse, welche sich auf den Kindergarten als eine Form der elementarpädagogischen Einrichtungen beziehen, dokumentieren die Wege, die bei der Implementierung beschritten wurden und zeigen auf, welche Faktoren den Prozess unterstützt beziehungsweise gehemmt haben und es nach wie vor tun. Davon ausgehend werden Empfehlungen für das weitere Vorgehen und etwaiger zukünftiger Implementierungsvorhaben im sozialen System Kindergarten abgeleitet. Sabine Cafuta, Mag.a Dr.in phil.
