Contexte : L’activité physique représente un champ d’investigation intéressant : sa pratique régulière pourrait permettre de retarder certains processus délétères liés au vieillissement. Objectif : Etudier l’impact d’une activité physique régulière sur la qualité de vie (QDV) du résident en EHPAD. Matériel et Méthode : Etude comparative, non randomisée. Deux groupes de résidents sont constitués dans deux EHPAD : un groupe contrôle (n=17) et un groupe intervention (n=17) constitué de résidents avec une activité physique (AP) régulière. Dans chacun des groupes, les résidents présentant des troubles cognitifs constituent un "sous-groupe" appelé "résidents déments". Le suivi des résidents est réalisé sur 3 mois avec un recueil des données, comprenant les questionnaires de qualité de vie (SF-36 et ADRQL chez les résidents déments) et les tests de performance physique avant le début de l’activité sur parcours de marche, puis à 2 mois et à 3 mois. Résultats : On constate une tendance à un effet positif de l’activité physique sur le score global physique de QDV chez les résidents non déments, notamment dans la dimension "limitations dues à l’état physique" du score SF-36. Ces résultats sont concordants avec l’amélioration des tests de performance physique (résultats non statistiquement significatifs). On constate aussi un bénéfice de l’AP sur la vie sociale des résidents. Chez les résidents déments, on ne constate pas d’effet bénéfique. Conclusion : Un essai contrôlé randomisé à grande échelle serait nécessaire pour prouver l’effet de l’AP sur la QDV des personnes âgées institutionnalisées.
