Language Culture Type grew out of the first international type-design competition, the 2001 bukva: raz!, whose goal was to promote global cultural pluralism, interaction, and diversity in typographic communications. The book lavishly presents the winning entries, along with information about each typeface, its language, and its designer. A series of essays gives context for the interplay of types and languages in the world today -- including the attempt to mesh all existing scripts into a single digital encoding system called Unicode. It also delves into the specific issues around developing typefaces for the many linguistic cultures in the world, from the various Cyrillic letterforms to Vietnam's ancient ideographic script.

Processing Of Visible Language written by Paul A. Kolers and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-11-21 with Psychology categories.

The second symposium on processing visible language constituted a different "mix" of participants from the first. Greater emphasis was given to the design of language, both in its historical development and in its current display; and to practical questions associated with machine-implementation oflanguage, in the interactions of person and computer, and in the characteristics of the physical and environmental objects that affect the interaction. Another change was that a special session on theory capped the proceedings. Psychologists remained heavily involved, however, both as contributors to and as discussants of the work pre sented. The motivation of the conferences remains one of bringing together graphic designers, engineers, and psychologists concerned with the display and acquisition of visible language. The papers separately tended to emphasize the one of the three disciplines that mark their authors' field of endeavor, but are constructed to be general rather than parochial. Moreover, within the three disciplines, papers emphasized either the textual or the more pictorial aspects. For example, a session on writing systems ranged from principles that seem to characterize all such systems to specific papers on ancient Egyptian writing, modern Korean, and English shorthand. The complementary session on the nontextual media opened with a discussion of general principles of pictorial communication and included papers on communicating instructions, general information, or religious belief through designs and other pictorial forms, as well as a discussion. of misrepresentation.

"With this visually stunning primer, designers will develop the skills and vision to produce truly innovative, stunning type design. Using more than 1,500 images from the 18th century up to the present day, the author describes type as a unique language that follows its own rules for communication and that requires great sensitivity for the reader's needs. Like its companion volume The Elements of Graphic Design, the book can be used as a first exposure primer for students and as a reader for professionals. Section one covers basic information about type design, while the remaining sections, What Readers Want, Creativity, and Typography Timeline, provide in-depth information about more advanced topics. Chapters include the elements of typography; the differences between type applications; how typography creates identity; what readers look for and respond to; step-by-step guides to developing distinctive type treatments; how to generate type ideas; and the historical development of typographic rules and letter forms. Written by a practitioner who regularly collaborates with today's leading type designers around the globe, this book offers insights into typography that normally require years of professional practice. Designed in an innovative two-color layout, the book provides a fun and systematic learning experience on multiple levels." --Allworth.
