Promote value -based education in general and in learning mobility in the youth field in particular. Learning mobility in the youth field is increasingly recognised and present in European programmes and in the activities and initiatives supported by the European Union, the Council of Europe and other institutions. Providing a meeting place for people from different environments and communities, learning-mobility programmes draw attention to values, trigger reflections on them and stimulate questioning and critical examination. If prepared and facilitated well, these experiences can contribute to preparing and supporting young people and adult learners to be active in society and to be agents of change. This T-Kit has been written by and is for facilitators of learning, to help start their thinking process about an important, but also complex, topic. It aims to promote value-based education in general: to explain it and, with practical examples related to specific values, show how it can be used. It is framed within the current policy framework of the Council of Europe and the European Union, including their youth-mobility programmes. The T-Kit should be understood through a holistic learning and non-formal education approach: the combination of theory, background information, examples and some practical ideas should help to initiate reflection from the relatively new angle of value-based education in learning mobility in the youth field. Value-based learning is not neutral, and neither is the T-Kit – Value-based learning in mobility projects. It is rooted in a set of values that it explores, promotes and encourages action based on them. To support this process, the T-Kit is divided into two parts: one conceptual and one practical. The conceptual part lays the foundation for value-based learning in mobility, while the practical part encompasses concrete activities and “thought provokers”, which address the dilemmas and questions that can arise when implementing activities.

"My interest is in helping us, first as individuals, grow gracefully, navigate socially, show respect, and embrace diversity, challenge, and change. You bring wisdom, grace, and understanding, or you bring pressure, promote discord, and find resistance." "You can learn how to, 'be nice and play with others', and if you're careful, you can influence others to everyone's benefit. On a very practical level, your understanding of differences will determine how successful you will be."THIS BOOK is a discussion of what these differences are, how to be comfortable with the differences between people, how to accept the differences that cannot change, and, how to make adjustments in your thinking, your hearts, and your behavior. THIS BOOK asks questions to help you look deeper inside. "If you are going live and accommodate gracefully, you will first need to understand why you find adjustment or acquiescence difficult. What about another point of view is disturbing to you? How did you become so rigid in your thinking? Are you demanding and hard to live with? How can you heal wounds and improve relationships? THIS BOOK suggests alternatives. What new perspective and attitude will help to make you a key person to have at the meeting, someone who has the respect of others, someone who is a part of the solution not part of the problem? What if we looked at our insecurities and addressed our fears and short-comings first? How much better would it be if we understood our motives, kept ourselves in check, and hold ourselves to a higher standard? What if we looked out for the interests of others, strived to be gracious, and extended peace instead of resistance and criticism? What if we treated others the way we want to be treated? Would our world be better? Would your world be better?"THIS BOOK specifically addresses personal, social, and business/corporate relationships. "What you come to understand about relationships, and the various perspectives you can take toward those who are different than you determines how well those relationships work or function, and how satisfactory they are for all concerned. This is true of almost any relationship you can mention.""For some of you, the big relationship challenges come to you at work. Work is where there are so many different types of folks, and there is little room to escape.A significant amount of introspection and humility, and a concentrated effort to understand and appreciate those who are different, will enable you to improve almost any relationship or environment. B. Individuals make up the whole, and a whole lot of people can get a great deal done if you know what you are doing, if you communicate respect, appreciation, and inclusion." THIS BOOK looks at the various reasons why different is difficult for you. It places you in various circumstances and helps you explore your assumptions, feelings, and insecurities. It gives you alternate points of view and helps you be "that person" (the person you want to be). The book description above is a collection of short snippets from the book. If you like what you read, you will enjoy the book. "If you spend as much time understanding who you are, and how you react and feel, as you do carrying out your will and pressuring others, you will find that relationships will improve. The most important change may be the growth you see in yourself as you learn to be tolerant, and as you learn to listen to, and value, others. That may change everything, or at least take some of the pressure off!" Is that a big order? Not to worry, we will figure it out together.

"The editors have brought together a range of eminent contributors who present a range of issues throughout the life cycle. The book asserts that it hopes to 'assist readers to anticipate change and discontinuity in people's lives and think about strategies to support them' through the many challenges that they may face in their lives. In my view this book certainly does that and the editors and contributors are to be congratulated on the production of a relevant and contemporary text that I have no hesitation in both endorsing and recommending to all involved in supporting and or caring for people with learning disabilities." Professor Bob Gates, Project Leader - Learning Disabilities Workforce Development, NHS Education South Central, UK "The editors have gathered an authoritative faculty to present and discuss a range of contemporary issues; both practical and ethical. The text is well grounded in the lived experience of people with disability and draws on the evidence-base of contemporary science. Each chapter includes thought provoking exercises. This is a seminal text for students and practitioners, researchers and policy makers." Associate Professor Keith R. McVilly, Deakin University, Australia "I currently own a copy of the first edition and it has proved an invaluable resource time and time again. There is not an essay I complete that does not make reference to the book and I can consistently use it to reflect back on my practice as a student nurse and social worker. Having read several extracts from the new edition it does appear to include very high quality content covering learning disabilities over the lifespan ... if I were to personally recommend any book for budding or current learning disability professionals then this would be it." James Grainger, Student Nurse/Social Worker, Sheffield Hallam University, UK "I like the way it has primary and secondary information from a range of sources. The exercises in the book also get you to think about the situation in question which helps us think about our values and anti-oppressive practice ... This book really does start with the basics and having a learning disability from birth and the effects, to in depth knowledge and literature ... This book would be very helpful to me as it brings in literature policies and models from both a health and social side, which is important for my course and collaborative working." Laura Jean Lowe, Student Nurse, Sheffield Hallam University, UK "It is written with a clearly conveyed in-depth knowledge and in a way that has professional lived experience within the context of the work. The authors have taken into account the emotional, client-centred approach to the modern practitioner's practice ... The book gives a true wealth of good practice scenarios that can only help practitioners be good at what they do and aspire to be." Lee Marshall, Student Nurse, Sheffield Hallam University, UK With its spread of chapters covering key issues across the life cycle this text has established itself as the foundational primer for those studying the lived experiences of people with learning disabilities and their families, and outcomes achieved through services and support systems. Recognising learning disability as a lifelong disability, this accessible book is structured around the life cycle. The second edition is refreshed and expanded to include seven new chapters, covering: Aetiology Breaking news (about disability) and early intervention Transition to adulthood The sexual lives of women Employment Personalisation People with hidden identities With contributions from respected figures from a range of disciplines, the book draws heavily upon multidisciplinary perspectives and is based on the latest research and evidence for practice. The text is informed by medical, social and legal models of learning disability, exploring how "learning disability" is produced, reproduced and understood. Extensive use is made of real-life case studies, designed to bring theory, values, policy and practice to life. Narrative chapters describe, in the words of people with learning disabilities themselves, their lives and aspirations. They helpfully show readers the kinds of roles played by families, advocates and services in supporting people with learning disabilities. New exercises and questions have been added to encourage discussion and reflection on practice. Learning Disability is core reading for students entering health and social care professions to work with people with learning disabilities. It is a compelling reference text for practitioners as it squarely addresses the challenges facing people with learning disability, their loved ones and the people supporting them. Today, a prosperous technology company can be disrupted and put out of business in a blink of an eye. The development of many different technologies that once took years can be done in months or weeks. There are also few examples where the engineering work is completely contained in one company or one engineering organization. Business strategies have evolved. The analysis of competitive forces in an industry has matured to include the concepts of disruptive innovation and coopetition. In an ecosystem characterized by rapid changes in technology and how it is developed, an engineering R&D organization will quickly become irrelevant if it fails to keep the pace of innovation needed to succeed. This book provides readers with a holistic approach to engineering management. We have seen that successful managers create a strong foundation of a common culture that enables learning, value creation, diversity and inclusion. They create organizations that tightly connect the core engineering functions of strategic planning, research and development and are able to comprehend and direct a broader R&D system that stretches well beyond their own organization's boundary. Doing all of this to extract the greatest value in the least amount of time is what we call holistic engineering management. The content for this book is based on over 105 years of combined experience working in a rapidly changing industry. In most chapters, practical examples and case studies of the concepts provided are given. As noted in the foreword by Pat Gelsinger (CEO, VMWare) and in comments from other technology leaders: Aart de Geus (Chairman and co-CEO, Synopsys, Inc.), Aicha Evans (CEO, Zoox, Inc.), William M Holt, (former Executive VP, GM, Intel, Corp.), and Amir Faintuch (Senior VP, GM, GlobalFoundries, Inc.), this book will be valuable for students of engineering management and current engineering managers.
