This monograph argues for a novel approach to split topicalization and quantifier float in German, based on the premise that syntactic structure-building proceeds solely via free application of Merge. Following recent developments in the pursuit of a more principled theory of syntax, it is argued that the stipulative notion of ‘projection’ ought to be dispensed with: syntactic objects created by Merge are not headed, and endocentricity arises due to a simple search algorithm. When this algorithm fails, specifically in symmetric {XP,YP} structures, an unlabeled constituent results; where a label is required, such structures are locally unstable. It is argued that both split topics and floated quantifiers are the result of this kind of local instability: when an exocentric predication structure is merged in argument or adjunct position, XP must be displaced at the phase level to allow for determination of a label. It is this symmetry-breaking movement that yields the ‘split constituent’ in surface form. Based on careful empirical scrutiny of two recalcitrant problems for syntactic theory, the present work adduces substantial support for a ‘minimalist’ grammatical architecture devoid of phrase-structural residue.

Instabilities in a Confined Plasma is entirely devoted to a theoretical exposition of the subject of plasma instabilities in confined systems. The book is an important contribution to the study of plasma instabilities, not only in fusion devices such as the Tokamak but also in astrophysical phenomena. It covers toroidal confinement systems, internal MHD modes, small-scale MHD instabilities, MHD internal kink modes, MHD modes in collisionless and neoclassical regimes, drift-MHD modes, external kink modes, and Alfven eigenmodes.

Stochastic And Chaotic Oscillations written by Juri I. Neimark and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with Mathematics categories.
This volume is devoted to stochastic and chaotic oscillations in dissipative systems. Chapter 1 deals with mathematical models of deterministic, discrete and distributed dynamical systems. In Chapter 2, the two basic trends of order and chaos are considered. The next three chapters describe stochasticity transformers, amplifiers and generators, turbulence, and phase portraits of steady-state motions and their bifurcations. Chapter 6 treats the topics of stochastic and chaotic attractors, and this is followed by two chapters dealing with routes to chaos and the quantitative characteristics of stochastic and chaotic motions. Finally, Chapter 9, which comprises more than one-third of the book, presents examples of systems having chaotic and stochastic motions drawn from mechanical, physical, chemical and biological systems. The book concludes with a comprehensive bibliography. For mathematicians, physicists, chemists and biologists interested in stochastic and chaotic oscillations in dynamical systems.

Observational Manifestation Of Chaos In Astrophysical Objects written by Alexei Fridman and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-06-27 with Science categories.
On August 2000 in the Lomonosov Moscow State University the first scientific conference dedicated to chaos in the real astronomical systems was held. The most prominent astrophysisists - specialist in the field of stochastic dynamics - attended the conference. A broad scope of the problems related to the observed manifes tations of chaotic motions in galactic and stellar objects, with the involvement of basic theory and numerical modeling, were addressed. The idea (not so obvious, as we believe, to many astrophysicists) was to show that, while great progress in the field of stochastic mechanics was accomplished, the science of chaos in actually observed systems is only just being born. Basically, the situation described prompted the organizers to hold the meeting in order to discuss chaotic processes in real systems. It seemed worthwhile to begin these introductory remarks with a brief descrip tion of some events that preceeded the conference. Since actually existing systems are the subject of the natural sciences, and in the latter experiments play the key role, we shall begin our account with the experimental results.

Troubleshooting Finite Element Modeling With Abaqus written by Raphael Jean Boulbes and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-09-06 with Technology & Engineering categories.
This book gives Abaqus users who make use of finite-element models in academic or practitioner-based research the in-depth program knowledge that allows them to debug a structural analysis model. The book provides many methods and guidelines for different analysis types and modes, that will help readers to solve problems that can arise with Abaqus if a structural model fails to converge to a solution. The use of Abaqus affords a general checklist approach to debugging analysis models, which can also be applied to structural analysis. The author uses step-by-step methods and detailed explanations of special features in order to identify the solutions to a variety of problems with finite-element models. The book promotes: • a diagnostic mode of thinking concerning error messages; • better material definition and the writing of user material subroutines; • work with the Abaqus mesher and best practice in doing so; • the writing of user element subroutines and contact features with convergence issues; and • consideration of hardware and software issues and a Windows HPC cluster solution. The methods and information provided facilitate job diagnostics and help to obtain converged solutions for finite-element models regarding structural component assemblies in static or dynamic analysis. The troubleshooting advice ensures that these solutions are both high-quality and cost-effective according to practical experience. The book offers an in-depth guide for students learning about Abaqus, as each problem and solution are complemented by examples and straightforward explanations. It is also useful for academics and structural engineers wishing to debug Abaqus models on the basis of error and warning messages that arise during finite-element modelling processing.

Handbook Of Structural Stability written by Herbert Becker and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1957 with Buckling (Mechanics) categories.
The local buckling of stiffener sections and the buckling of plates with sturdy stiffeners are reviewed, and the results are summarized in charts and tables. Numerical values of buckling coefficients are presented for longitudinally compressed stiffener sections of various shapes, for stiffened plates loaded in longitudinal compression and in shear, and for stiffened cylinders loaded in torsion. Although the data presented consist primarily of elastic-buckling coefficients, the effects of plasticity are discussed for a few special cases.
