Once upon a time in the Kingdom of Sonas, the finest kingdom out of all the kingdoms in the land, everyone was so very happy since King Kindely and his wife Queen Caroline were so very, very good. But one day King Kindely lost his wife and very young daughter, Princess Priscilla. Upon returning to the Kingdom of Sonas, the King's finest ship carrying the Queen and the Princess was swallowed up by the biggest fish anyone had ever seen on the Salty Sea. The King was very sad and for years cried and cried. Soon, the Salty Sea began to rise and with it many, many islands that were as big as mountains too. Also, the fish were found no more. On the land the driest drought anyone had ever experience was taking the only fresh water left leaving the people worrying that one day it would all be gone and they would perish. But one day the King cried his last tear and came to his senses. He believed if the fish could be found the Queen and Princess could be rescued from its belly and the Kingdom of Sonas would once again be the happiest kingdom in all the lands. He sent out a plea asking all to help. And the story begins when the plea reaches the hands of a son of a simple farmer. The son reads the plea and decides to help The Lonely King.

Maybelle Lane is looking for her father, but on the road to Nashville she finds so much more: courage, brains, heart--and true friends. Eleven-year-old Maybelle Lane collects sounds. She records the Louisiana crickets chirping, Momma strumming her guitar, their broken trailer door squeaking. But the crown jewel of her collection is a sound she didn't collect herself: an old recording of her daddy's warm-sunshine laugh, saved on an old phone's voicemail. It's the only thing she has of his, and the only thing she knows about him. Until the day she hears that laugh--his laugh--pouring out of the car radio. Going against Momma's wishes, Maybelle starts listening to her radio DJ daddy's new show, drinking in every word like a plant leaning toward the sun. When he announces he'll be the judge of a singing contest in Nashville, she signs up. What better way to meet than to stand before him and sing with all her heart? But the road to Nashville is bumpy. Her starch-stiff neighbor Mrs. Boggs offers to drive her in her RV. And a bully of a boy from the trailer park hitches a ride, too. These are not the people May would have chosen to help her, but it turns out they're searching for things as well. And the journey will mold them into the best kind of family--the kind you choose for yourself.

Never fall in love with your knight in shining armor... Even though he can't step foot out of his house, Noah King's sole purpose in life is to help people. He created the Ark as a sanctuary for animals and people alike, and it's not surprising that when I'm at my lowest ebb, he's the one who rides in on his white horse and rescues me. But now I'm in a terrible dilemma. Since his wife died giving birth to their baby - who also died - Noah's been a recluse. The last thing he needs in his life is a woman who's eight months' pregnant, alone, and homeless. Of course he's going to want to help me. I know I mustn't mistake kindness and friendship for real love. And I really don't want to be one of life's victims. I want to get myself back on my feet and create a good life for the baby. I don't want to cause Noah pain by stirring up old memories. And I don't want him to feel pity for me. I know I should walk away. But it's strange how it's only when someone shows you kindness that you realize how empty your life has been. Oh God. I'm desperately in love with him. And now the baby is days away from coming, and I've literally nowhere to go. What am I going to do?

A man other than my husband sits on England's throne today. What would happen if this king suddenly went mad? What would his queen do? Would she make the same mistakes I did, or would she learn from mine? Margaret of Anjou, queen of England, cannot give up on her husband-even when he slips into insanity. And as mother to the House of Lancaster's last hope, she cannot give up on her son-even when England turns against them. This gripping tale of a queen forced to stand strong in the face of overwhelming odds is at its heart a tender tale of love. Award-winning author Susan Higginbotham will once again ask readers to question everything they know about right and wrong, compassion and hope, duty to one's country and the desire of one's own heart. Praise for Susan Higginbotham "A beautiful blending of turbulent history and deeply felt fiction, Susan Higginbotham's The Queen of Last Hopes brings alive an amazing woman often overlooked or slandered by historians. Granddaughter of Queen Victoria of England, Marie (1875-1938) became queen of Romania, her adopted country, in 1914 when her husband Ferdinand assumed the throne. Queen Marie became known worldwide for her charitable efforts and her work nursing wounded soldiers on the front lines during World War I. She helped lead the political and diplomatic efforts that led to Romanian national unification in 1918. This collection of documents reveals important aspects of the life and personality of this remarkable monarch. Americans and Queen Marie of Romania is edited by Diana Fotescu, a researcher at the Cotroceni Museum in Bucharest, the former royal palace where Queen Marie lived. She compiled the materials presented in this volume during her work in the archives in the United States and Romania.
