In piena bagarre futurista, l’ideologo, il mentore il “capo” del movimento Filippo Tommaso Marinetti venne formalmente accusato di oltraggio al pudore a causa del suo testo “Mafarka il Futurista”. Marinetti, in sua difesa chiese aiuto a tutta quella pletora di amici e discepoli che allora lo circondavano e lo veneravano. Egli per l’occasione mobilitò alcuni dei più celebri avvocati milanesi del tempo che lo seguissero durante il processo, che ebbe luogo nell’ottobre del 1910 davanti a un folto pubblico di letterati, artisti, giornalisti e studenti oltre a tutti i nomi più noti degli esponenti del movimento futurista: Boccioni, Balla, Russolo, Carrà, Sant’elia, Ciacelli e molti altri. Marinetti per rafforzare la difesa della sua posizione fece ricorso anche alla perizia ‘tecnica’ di un suo grande amico e grande letterato italiano, Luigi Capuana, che si espresse con toni sinceramente entusiasti nei confronti dell’opera (“è precisamente il poema, non il romanzo, della conquista del pieno possesso della libertà spirituale dell’individuo”). L’accusa di oscenità a carico del Marinetti verteva soprattutto sui primi due capitoli del suo scritto, e per l’esattezza l’episodio dello “stupro delle negre” e il gigantesco membro virile di dieci metri sfoggiato da Mafarka nel secondo episodio. Il processo alla fine si concluse con l’assoluzione, e fu in pratica una solenne occasione per pubblicizzare il futurismo attraverso un grande e chiassoso happening pubblico... In 1909 the poet Filippo Tommaso Marinetti published the founding manifesto of Italian Futurism, an inflammatory celebration of "the love of danger" and "the beauty of speed" that provoked readers to take aggressive action and "glorify war--the world's only hygiene." Mafarka es un relato de accion demoledora, exhibicionista y amoral que exalta la velocidad, la temeridad, el peligro y la violencia: Mafarka-l-bar arrebata a su tio Bubassa la corona de Tel-al-kebir ante el inminente ataque del rey negro Brafan. Mafarka derrota a Brafan valiendose de la astucia, pero en los combates pierde a su hermano Magamal, mordido por un perro rabioso. abandona entonces el cetro de Tel-al-kebir y decide morir transfiriendo su espiritu a su hijo Gazurmah, una estatua alada de madera a la que da vida con un beso.
