Mafarka es un relato de accion demoledora, exhibicionista y amoral que exalta la velocidad, la temeridad, el peligro y la violencia: Mafarka-l-bar arrebata a su tio Bubassa la corona de Tel-al-kebir ante el inminente ataque del rey negro Brafan. Mafarka derrota a Brafan valiendose de la astucia, pero en los combates pierde a su hermano Magamal, mordido por un perro rabioso. abandona entonces el cetro de Tel-al-kebir y decide morir transfiriendo su espiritu a su hijo Gazurmah, una estatua alada de madera a la que da vida con un beso.
