Research Paper (undergraduate) from the year 2010 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, University of Zagreb (Institute of Economics), course: MBA - Human resources management and development, language: English, abstract: Contemporary business management is based on management of resources, particularly human resources. Planning, recruiting and selecting candidates are key human resource functions. Business leaders are continuously engaged in the process of reconsidering roles and goals, managing the business in the most appropriate way. Selection, based upon internal candidates recruitment was a rule in a lack of certain employees profiles. But, solving the human resources insufficiency problem, we often refocus our attention to external candidates recruitment and selection. Besides contacts and colaboration with media and recruitment agencies, we also need strengthening of our own potentials. Selection through our own human resource department or engagement of selection agency / professionals is a routine, but when we have to cope with several constraints like human resources and financial resources limits, then we have to rely on selection aproach more flexible and adaptive to ocassions. Media support, at least an adequate Internet promotion, lead to rising number of candidates applications. But choice of the right candidate is the art, we have to accept the fact. 3 C concept (Cost, communication, and concept itself) may help in improvizing our candidate selection process. Internet ensures wide communication to candidates, through social networks and Internet generally, but is not enough when focusing our attention to candidates and their potential. In order to ensure choosing the right one, or at least to follow the rule - not to choose “the wrong” candidate nor to exclude “the right one”. Systematic approach ensures planned results and candidates choices, so we have to be aware of the fact that further development and focus onto new potentials and resources are basics for our business survival. Fisheries Economics has always been an interdisciplinary field of study with economic analysis based on stock population dynamics, but many published works have focused mainly on theoretical economic issues without much focus on biological details. For the most part, age structured models have been ignored. Bioeconomics of Fisheries Management is a valuable reference text that presents the economic aspects of fisheries management in a broad bioeconomic framework. The book is broken into two parts. Part I covers the traditional areas of fisheries economics, covering topics such as open access, optimal and managed fisheries utilization that is analyzed through a traditional one stock/one fleet model. It also presents the basic results in terms of an age structured model. Part II covers material related to more recent work on bioeconomic models when more rigorous biological components became more prevalent, and views fisheries management with an ecosystems-based approach. Accompanying the book is a user-friendly CD with exercises and examples that aids the reader in applying theoretical principles of population dynamics and fisheries management and regulation. Bioeconomics of Fisheries Management will be a valuable text for researchers, fisheries economists, professionals, and students alike.

Over the past several decades there has been increasing interest in, and concern about, the economics of the world's capture fishery resources. Massive amounts of resource rent are being lost because of inadequate management and major rebuilding of fishery resources is called for. This book draws together the latest economic theory of the management of these resources, at both the national and the international levels, and highlights areas where further research is urgently required. The emphasis is on world capture fisheries, rather than fisheries of specific regions, and examples are drawn upon from both developed and developing countries. It combines economic theory and empirical testing with an examination and analysis of resource policy options, with particular emphasis on fisheries management polices at the international level, where some of the most difficult resource management problems are found. The authors maintain that capture fishery resources are properly viewed as a part of society's portfolio of natural capital assets. Consequently, a central theme of the book is that managing such resources should be viewed as asset management through time. Written by two leading authorities, this accessible textbook has been specially developed to meet the needs of students taking courses on fisheries management as well as professionals working in this area for governments and international organisations.
