This thesis presents a measurement of the time-dependent asymmetry in the rate of {anti B}{sub d}° versus B{sub d}° decays to J/[psi]K{sub s}°. In the context of the Standard Model this is interpreted as a measurement of the CP violation parameter sin(2[beta]). A total of 198±17 B{sub d}°/{anti B}{sub d}° decays were observed in p{anti p} collisions at √s=1.8 TeV by the CDF detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. The initial B flavor (whether B° or {anti B}°) is determined by a same-side flavor tagging technique. The analysis results in sin(2[beta])=1.8±1.1(stat.)±0.3(syst.). This analysis demonstrates the feasibility of studying CP violation in the B°-{anti B}° system at a hadron collider. By applying the methods used in this analysis, future, higher-statistics experiments should be able to tightly constrain the parameters of the Standard Model.

A sample of[approximately] 400 B[sub d][sup 0]/[bar B][sub d][sup 0][r-arrow] J/[psi]K[sub s][sup 0] decays collected in[bar p]p collisions by the CDF detector is used to directly measure the CP-violation parameter sin (2[beta]). They find sin(2[beta])= 0.79[sub[minus]0.44][sup+ 0.41], favoring the standard model expectation of a large CP violation in this B[sup 0] decay mode.

In the 110 pb[sup -1] Run I data sample, using three complementary flavor-tagging algorithms CDF has made a new measurement of the CP-violating asymmetry sin(2[beta])=0.79[sup +0.41][sub -0.44], This corresponds to the limit sin(2[beta])>-0.08 at 95% confidence level. ​This thesis represents the first double differential measurement of quasi-elastic anti-neutrino scattering in the few GeV range--a region of substantial theoretical and experimental interest as it is the kinematic region where studies of charge-parity (CP) violation in the neutrino sector most require precise understanding of the differences between anti-neutrino and neutrino scatter. This dissertation also presents total antineutrino-scintillator quasi-elastic cross sections as a function of energy, which is then compared to measurements from previous experiments. Next-generation neutrino oscillation experiments, such as DUNE and Hyper-Kamiokande, hope to measure CP violation in the lepton sector. In order to do this, they must dramatically reduce their current levels of uncertainty, particularly those due to neutrino-nucleus interaction models. As CP violation is a measure of the difference between the oscillation properties of neutrinos and antineutrinos, data about how the less-studied antineutrinos interact is especially valuable. The measurement described herewith determines the nuclear and instrumental effects that must be understood to undertake precision neutrino physics. As well as being useful to help reduce oscillation experiments' uncertainty, this data can also be used to study the prevalence of various correlation and final-state interaction effects within the nucleus. In addition to being a substantial scientific advance, this thesis also serves as an outstanding introduction to the field of experimental neutrino physics for future students.

The beta-beam concept for the generation of electron neutrino beams was first proposed by Piero Zucchelli in 2002. The traditional purpose of the Adriatic Meeting is to present most advanced scienti?c research conducted by the lecturers who take part in the development of their ?elds and, in addition, to provide a school-like atmosphere for young scientists. Dubrovnik, as a geographical centre of this region of Europe, provided a most adequate location for this conference. Having very agreeable surroundings, the conference site nevertheless gave a focus for very strong scienti?c interaction. The subjects chosen for the 8th meeting, in September 2001, were gauge theories, particle phenomenology, string theories and cosmology. We were able to bring together a very good cross section of outstanding scientists who gave extraorinarily good presentations. Certainely one reason for this success is that most of us feel obliged to help the scienti?c life in South East Europe return to its former level. However, there are very exciting new scienti?c developments as well. Part of the meeting was dominated by neutrino physics which has just seen exciting progress by establishing neutrino masses experimentally. This was d- cussed within neutrino masses and grand uni?ed theories (GUTs). General - pects of neutrino physics and CP violation, neutrino mixing and the bayron asymmetry were presented along the same lines. On the theoretical side the idea of the construction of gauge theories on non-commutative spaces and their phenomenological implications is accepted worldwide within the particle physics community.
