This Technical Assistance report on Jordan discusses that financial system of Jordan is dominated by other depository corporations (ODC), which constitute around 63 percent of the financial system’s assets. The technical assistance mission delivered objectives and agreed with the authorities on an action plan to improve the country’s monetary statistics. Some progress has been made in the Central Bank trial accounts regarding the sectorization and classification of the financial instruments. The Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ) has made substantive progress in improving human resource skills among staff. The accounting principles are found to be broadly in line with the methodology of the IMF with some departures related to market valuation. The accounting and valuation methodology implemented by the ODCs in Jordan are broadly in line with the recommended compilation practices identified in the Monetary and Financial Statistics Manual and Compilation Guide. Considering the change in the source data since 2014, the mission re-mapped the source data, using data from the aggregated balance sheet of the banking sector and the accompanying schedules through a bridge table. The mission built a time series for all the required data and created a tool linking the data to the Standardized report forms. The tool provides CBJ staff with a simpler method for data compilation.

The April issue of International Financial Statistics (IFS) is a standard source of statistics on all aspects of international and domestic finance. This issue introduces changes in the presentation of the monetary statistics for the euro area and its member countries. The new presentation aligns the accounts of depository corporations (central bank and other depository corporations) in the euro area with the methodology of the IMF’s Monetary and Financial Statistics Manual, 2000 and Monetary and Financial Statistics Compilation Guide. In addition, a new section for other financial corporations is introduced in the euro area page. This paper presents the special quarterly supplement to the International Financial Statistics (IFS) 2006. The IMF is publishing the monetary statistics for those member countries that have commenced the reporting, on a regular basis, of monetary data that accord with the methodology in the IMF’s Monetary and Financial Statistics Manual (MFSM), 2000. Exchange rates are expressed in time series of national currency units per SDR and national currency units per US dollar, or vice versa. An increase in the index reflects an appreciation. Because of certain data-related limitations, particularly where Fund estimates have been used, data users need to exercise considerable caution in interpreting movements in nominal and real effective exchange rates. Statistics on the accounts of financial corporations are given in sections 10 through 50 in the country tables. Data for the depository corporations and other financial corporations are consolidated into a Financial Corporations Survey.

This 2016 yearbook issue of International Financial Statistics is a standard source of statistics on all aspects of international and domestic finance. The monthly printed issue of IFS reports current monthly, quarterly, and annual data, while the yearbook reports 12 observations of annual data. Most annual data on the CD-ROM and Internet begin in 1948; quarterly and monthly data generally begin in 1957; most balance-of-payments data begin in 1970. The notes to the country tables in the monthly issues provide information about exceptions in the choice of the consumer price index (generally line 64) and the period average exchange rate index. Quotas are reviewed at intervals of not more than five years. The reviews take account of changes in the relative economic positions of members and the growth of the world economy. The General Resources Account resources consist of the currencies of Fund member countries, SDRs, and gold.
