Recent years have witnessed important developments in those areas of the mathematical sciences where the basic model under study is a dynamical system such as a differential equation or control process. Many of these recent advances were made possible by parallel developments in nonlinear and nonsmooth analysis. The latter subjects, in general terms, encompass differential analysis and optimization theory in the absence of traditional linearity, convexity or smoothness assumptions. In the last three decades it has become increasingly recognized that nonlinear and nonsmooth behavior is naturally present and prevalent in dynamical models, and is therefore significant theoretically. This point of view has guided us in the organizational aspects of this ASI. Our goals were twofold: We intended to achieve "cross fertilization" between mathematicians who were working in a diverse range of problem areas, but who all shared an interest in nonlinear and nonsmooth analysis. More importantly, it was our goal to expose a young international audience (mainly graduate students and recent Ph. D. 's) to these important subjects. In that regard, there were heavy pedagogical demands placed upon the twelve speakers of the ASI, in meeting the needs of such a gathering. The talks, while exposing current areas of research activity, were required to be as introductory and comprehensive as possible. It is our belief that these goals were achieved, and that these proceedings bear this out. Each of the twelve speakers presented a mini-course of four or five hours duration.

Nonlinear Systems Analysis written by M. Vidyasagar and has been published by SIAM this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002-01-01 with Mathematics categories.
When M. Vidyasagar wrote the first edition of Nonlinear Systems Analysis, most control theorists considered the subject of nonlinear systems a mystery. Since then, advances in the application of differential geometric methods to nonlinear analysis have matured to a stage where every control theorist needs to possess knowledge of the basic techniques because virtually all physical systems are nonlinear in nature. The second edition, now republished in SIAM's Classics in Applied Mathematics series, provides a rigorous mathematical analysis of the behavior of nonlinear control systems under a variety of situations. It develops nonlinear generalizations of a large number of techniques and methods widely used in linear control theory. The book contains three extensive chapters devoted to the key topics of Lyapunov stability, input-output stability, and the treatment of differential geometric control theory. Audience: this text is designed for use at the graduate level in the area of nonlinear systems and as a resource for professional researchers and practitioners working in areas such as robotics, spacecraft control, motor control, and power systems.

Max Plus Methods For Nonlinear Control And Estimation written by William M. McEneaney and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-07-25 with Mathematics categories.
The central focus of this book is the control of continuous-time/continuous-space nonlinear systems. Using new techniques that employ the max-plus algebra, the author addresses several classes of nonlinear control problems, including nonlinear optimal control problems and nonlinear robust/H-infinity control and estimation problems. Several numerical techniques are employed, including a max-plus eigenvector approach and an approach that avoids the curse-of-dimensionality. The max-plus-based methods examined in this work belong to an entirely new class of numerical methods for the solution of nonlinear control problems and their associated Hamilton–Jacobi–Bellman (HJB) PDEs; these methods are not equivalent to either of the more commonly used finite element or characteristic approaches. Max-Plus Methods for Nonlinear Control and Estimation will be of interest to applied mathematicians, engineers, and graduate students interested in the control of nonlinear systems through the implementation of recently developed numerical methods.

Nonlinear Systems Of Partial Differential Equations Applications To Life And Physical Sciences written by Anthony W Leung and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-08-28 with Mathematics categories.
The book presents the theory of diffusion-reaction equations starting from the Volterra-Lotka systems developed in the eighties for Dirichlet boundary conditions. It uses the analysis of applicable systems of partial differential equations as a starting point for studying upper-lower solutions, bifurcation, degree theory and other nonlinear methods. It also illustrates the use of semigroup, stability theorems and W2ptheory. Introductory explanations are included in the appendices for non-expert readers. The first chapter covers a wide range of steady-state and stability results involving prey-predator, competing and cooperating species under strong or weak interactions. Many diagrams are included to easily understand the description of the range of parameters for coexistence. The book provides a comprehensive presentation of topics developed by numerous researchers. Large complex systems are introduced for modern research in ecology, medicine and engineering.Chapter 3 combines the theories of earlier chapters with the optimal control of systems involving resource management and fission reactors. This is the first book to present such topics at research level. Chapter 4 considers persistence, cross-diffusion, and boundary induced blow-up, etc. The book also covers traveling or systems of waves, coupled Navier-Stokes and Maxwell systems, and fluid equations of plasma display. These should be of interest to life and physical scientists.

This book presents advanced methods of integral calculus and the classical theory of the ordinary and partial differential equations. It provides explicit solutions of linear and nonlinear differential equations and implicit solutions with discrete approximations. Differential equations that could not be explicitly solved are discussed with special functions such as Bessel functions. New functions are defined from differential equations. Laguerre, Hermite and Legendre orthonormal polynomials as well as several extensions are also considered. It is illustrated by examples and graphs of functions, with each chapter containing exercises solved in the last chapter.

Ordinary Differential Equations written by Hartmut Logemann and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-07-08 with Mathematics categories.
The book comprises a rigorous and self-contained treatment of initial-value problems for ordinary differential equations. It additionally develops the basics of control theory, which is a unique feature in current textbook literature. The following topics are particularly emphasised: • existence, uniqueness and continuation of solutions, • continuous dependence on initial data, • flows, • qualitative behaviour of solutions, • limit sets, • stability theory, • invariance principles, • introductory control theory, • feedback and stabilization. The last two items cover classical control theoretic material such as linear control theory and absolute stability of nonlinear feedback systems. It also includes an introduction to the more recent concept of input-to-state stability. Only a basic grounding in linear algebra and analysis is assumed. Ordinary Differential Equations will be suitable for final year undergraduate students of mathematics and appropriate for beginning postgraduates in mathematics and in mathematically oriented engineering and science.

Nonlinear Optimal Control Theory written by Leonard David Berkovitz and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-08-25 with Mathematics categories.
Nonlinear Optimal Control Theory presents a deep, wide-ranging introduction to the mathematical theory of the optimal control of processes governed by ordinary differential equations and certain types of differential equations with memory. Many examples illustrate the mathematical issues that need to be addressed when using optimal control techniques in diverse areas. Drawing on classroom-tested material from Purdue University and North Carolina State University, the book gives a unified account of bounded state problems governed by ordinary, integrodifferential, and delay systems. It also discusses Hamilton-Jacobi theory. By providing a sufficient and rigorous treatment of finite dimensional control problems, the book equips readers with the foundation to deal with other types of control problems, such as those governed by stochastic differential equations, partial differential equations, and differential games.

Numerical Methods For Nonlinear Partial Differential Equations written by Sören Bartels and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-01-19 with Mathematics categories.
The description of many interesting phenomena in science and engineering leads to infinite-dimensional minimization or evolution problems that define nonlinear partial differential equations. While the development and analysis of numerical methods for linear partial differential equations is nearly complete, only few results are available in the case of nonlinear equations. This monograph devises numerical methods for nonlinear model problems arising in the mathematical description of phase transitions, large bending problems, image processing, and inelastic material behavior. For each of these problems the underlying mathematical model is discussed, the essential analytical properties are explained, and the proposed numerical method is rigorously analyzed. The practicality of the algorithms is illustrated by means of short implementations.
