Nonlinear Differential Problems with Smooth and Nonsmooth Constraints systematically evaluates how to solve boundary value problems with smooth and nonsmooth constraints. Primarily covering nonlinear elliptic eigenvalue problems and quasilinear elliptic problems using techniques amalgamated from a range of sophisticated nonlinear analysis domains, the work is suitable for PhD and other early career researchers seeking solutions to nonlinear differential equations. Although an advanced work, the book is self-contained, requiring only graduate-level knowledge of functional analysis and topology. Whenever suitable, open problems are stated and partial solutions proposed. The work is accompanied by end-of-chapter problems and carefully curated references. Builds from functional analysis and operator theory, to nonlinear elliptic systems and control problems Outlines the evolution of the main ideas of nonlinear analysis and their roots in classical mathematics Presented with numerous end-of-chapter exercises and sophisticated open problems Illustrated with pertinent industrial and engineering numerical examples and applications Accompanied by hundreds of curated references, saving readers hours of research in conducting literature analysis

The goal of this book is to present the main ideas and techniques in the field of continuous smooth and nonsmooth optimization. Starting with the case of differentiable data and the classical results on constrained optimization problems, and continuing with the topic of nonsmooth objects involved in optimization theory, the book concentrates on both theoretical and practical aspects of this field. This book prepares those who are engaged in research by giving repeated insights into ideas that are subsequently dealt with and illustrated in detail.

Many of the most challenging problems in the applied sciences involve non-differentiable structures as well as partial differential operators, thus leading to non-smooth distributed parameter systems. This edited volume aims to establish a theoretical and numerical foundation and develop new algorithmic paradigms for the treatment of non-smooth phenomena and associated parameter influences. Other goals include the realization and further advancement of these concepts in the context of robust and hierarchical optimization, partial differential games, and nonlinear partial differential complementarity problems, as well as their validation in the context of complex applications. Areas for which applications are considered include optimal control of multiphase fluids and of superconductors, image processing, thermoforming, and the formation of rivers and networks. Chapters are written by leading researchers and present results obtained in the first funding phase of the DFG Special Priority Program on Nonsmooth and Complementarity Based Distributed Parameter Systems: Simulation and Hierarchical Optimization that ran from 2016 to 2019.

In the early fifties, applied mathematicians, engineers and economists started to pay c10se attention to the optimization problems in which another (lower-Ievel) optimization problem arises as a side constraint. One of the motivating factors was the concept of the Stackelberg solution in game theory, together with its economic applications. Other problems have been encountered in the seventies in natural sciences and engineering. Many of them are of practical importance and have been extensively studied, mainly from the theoretical point of view. Later, applications to mechanics and network design have lead to an extension of the problem formulation: Constraints in form of variation al inequalities and complementarity problems were also admitted. The term "generalized bi level programming problems" was used at first but later, probably in Harker and Pang, 1988, a different terminology was introduced: Mathematical programs with equilibrium constraints, or simply, MPECs. In this book we adhere to MPEC terminology. A large number of papers deals with MPECs but, to our knowledge, there is only one monograph (Luo et al. , 1997). This monograph concentrates on optimality conditions and numerical methods. Our book is oriented similarly, but we focus on those MPECs which can be treated by the implicit programming approach: the equilibrium constraint locally defines a certain implicit function and allows to convert the problem into a mathematical program with a nonsmooth objective.

Nonsmooth Critical Point Theory And Nonlinear Boundary Value Problems written by Leszek Gasinski and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004-07-27 with Mathematics categories.

Starting in the early 1980s, people using the tools of nonsmooth analysis developed some remarkable nonsmooth extensions of the existing critical point theory. Until now, however, no one had gathered these tools and results together into a unified, systematic survey of these advances. This book fills that gap. It provides a complete presentation of nonsmooth critical point theory, then goes beyond it to study nonlinear second order boundary value problems. The authors do not limit their treatment to problems in variational form. They also examine in detail equations driven by the p-Laplacian, its generalizations, and their spectral properties, studying a wide variety of problems and illustrating the powerful tools of modern nonlinear analysis. The presentation includes many recent results, including some that were previously unpublished. Detailed appendices outline the fundamental mathematical tools used in the book, and a rich bibliography forms a guide to the relevant literature. Most books addressing critical point theory deal only with smooth problems, linear or semilinear problems, or consider only variational methods or the tools of nonlinear operators. Nonsmooth Critical Point Theory and Nonlinear Boundary Value Problems offers a comprehensive treatment of the subject that is up-to-date, self-contained, and rich in methods for a wide variety of problems.

Nonsmooth Optimization Analysis And Algorithms With Applications To Optimal Control written by Marko M Makela and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1992-05-07 with Mathematics categories.

This book is a self-contained elementary study for nonsmooth analysis and optimization, and their use in solution of nonsmooth optimal control problems. The first part of the book is concerned with nonsmooth differential calculus containing necessary tools for nonsmooth optimization. The second part is devoted to the methods of nonsmooth optimization and their development. A proximal bundle method for nonsmooth nonconvex optimization subject to nonsmooth constraints is constructed. In the last part nonsmooth optimization is applied to problems arising from optimal control of systems covered by partial differential equations. Several practical problems, like process control and optimal shape design problems are considered.

Recent Trends In Nonlinear Partial Differential Equations written by Patrizia Pucci and has been published by American Mathematical Soc. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013 with Mathematics categories.

This book is the second of two volumes that contain the proceedings of the Workshop on Nonlinear Partial Differential Equations, held from May 28-June 1, 2012, at the University of Perugia in honor of Patrizia Pucci's 60th birthday. The workshop brought together leading experts and researchers in nonlinear partial differential equations to promote research and to stimulate interactions among the participants. The workshop program testified to the wide ranging influence of Patrizia Pucci on the field of nonlinear analysis and partial differential equations. In her own work, Patrizia Pucci has been a seminal influence in many important areas: the maximum principle, qualitative analysis of solutions to many classes of nonlinear PDEs (Kirchhoff problems, polyharmonic systems), mountain pass theorem in the critical case, critical exponents, variational identities, as well as various degenerate or singular phenomena in mathematical physics. This same breadth is reflected in the mathematical papers included in this volume. The companion volume (Contemporary Mathematics, Volume 594) is devoted to evolution problems in nonlinear partial differential equations.

The authors present a completely new and highly application-oriented field of nonlinear analysis. The work covers the theory of non-smooth input-output systems and presents various methods to non-standard applications in mathematics and physics. A particular focus lies on hysteresis and relay phenomena, electric circuits with diode nonlinearities, and biological systems with constraints.
