This Research Topic is part of a series with, "Bioinformatics Analysis of Omics Data for Biomarker Identification in Clinical Research - Volume I" (https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/13816/bioinformatics-analysis-of-omics-data-for-biomarker-identification-in-clinical-research) The advances and the decreasing cost of omics data enable profiling of disease molecular features at different levels, including bulk tissues, animal models, and single cells. Large volumes of omics data enhance the ability to search for information for preclinical study and provide the opportunity to leverage them to understand disease mechanisms, identify molecular targets for therapy, and detect biomarkers of treatment response. Identification of stable, predictive, and interpretable biomarkers is a significant step towards personalized medicine and therapy. Omics data from genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, epigenomics, metagenomics, and metabolomics help to determine biomarkers for prognostic and diagnostic applications. Preprocessing of omics data is of vital importance as it aims to eliminate systematic experimental bias and technical variation while preserving biological variation. Dozens of normalization methods for correcting experimental variation and bias in omics data have been developed during the last two decades, while only a few consider the skewness between different sample states, such as the extensive over-repression of genes in cancers. The choice of normalization methods determines the fate of identified biomarkers or molecular signatures. From these considerations, the development of appropriate normalization methods or preprocessing strategies may promote biomarker identification and facilitate clinical decision-making.

A Complex Systems Approach To Epilepsy written by Rod C. Scott and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-01-26 with Medical categories.
The epilepsies are devastating neurological disorders for which progress developing effective new therapies has slowed over recent decades, primarily due to the complexity of the brain at all scales. This reality has shifted the focus of experimental and clinical practice toward complex systems approaches to overcoming current barriers. Organized by scale from genes to whole brain, the chapters of this book survey the theoretical underpinnings and use of network and dynamical systems approaches to interpreting and modeling experimental and clinical data in epilepsy. The emphasis throughout is on the value of the non-trivial, and often counterintuitive, properties of complex systems, and how to leverage these properties to elaborate mechanisms of epilepsy and develop new therapies. In this essential book, readers will learn key concepts of complex systems theory applied across multiple scales and how each of these scales connects to epilepsy.

Computational intelligence (CI) refers to the ability of computers to accomplish tasks that are normally completed by intelligent beings such as humans and animals. Artificial intelligent systems offer great improvement in healthcare systems by providing more intelligent and convenient solutions and services assisted by machine learning, wireless communications, data analytics, cognitive computing, and mobile computing. Modern health treatments are faced with the challenge of acquiring, analysing, and applying the large amount of knowledge necessary to solve complex problems. AI techniques are being effectively used in the field of healthcare systems by extracting the useful information from the vast amounts of data by applying human expertise and CI methods, such as fuzzy models, artificial neural networks, evolutionary algorithms, and probabilistic methods which have recently emerged as promising tools for the development and application of intelligent systems in healthcare practice. This book starts with the fundamentals of computer intelligence and the techniques and procedures associated with them. Contained in the book are state-of-the-art CI methods and other allied techniques used in healthcare systems as well as advances in different CI methods that confront the problem of effective data analysis and storage faced by healthcare institutions. The objective of this book is to provide the latest research related to the healthcare sector to researchers and engineers with a platform encompassing state-of-the-art innovations, research and design, and the implementation of methodologies.
