Tämän kirjan artikkelit perustuvat suomalaisen filosofin Matti Puolakan (1947-2018) näkemykseen demokratian kriisistä, aikakauden olemuksesta ja ihmiskunnan koko tiestä. Puolakan filosofista elämäntyötä esitellään lyhyesti kirjan alussa. EU:n systeemikriisi on olemukseltaan laillisuuskriisi. EU:ssa ei toteuteta laillisuusvalvontaa oikeusvaltiolta edellytettävällä tavalla. Se on mahdollistanut lukuisat lakien ja sopimusten rikkomukset, joita kirjassa käydään perusteellisesti läpi. Tämä näkemys poikkeaa muusta EU-kritiikistä. Ainutlaatuinen on myös vanhempi tutkimus siitä miten EU:n itälaajentuminen toteutettiin jäsenyyskriteereistä piittaamatta, esimerkkinä Viron jäsenyysneuvottelut. Kriisin ratkaisemiseksi on ensin todettava tapahtuneet vääryydet ja lainrikkomukset ja selvitettävä niiden syyt. Kirjoittajat ehdottavat totuuskomissiota pysyvänä valtioelimenä EU:hun ja sen jäsenmaihin. Se edellyttää oikeusfilosofisen ajattelun kehittämistä tämän ajan uusien haasteiden pohjalta. Sitä varten tarvitaan laajaa, aatehistoriaan ankkuroitua keskustelua yhteiskunnan kaikilla tasoilla niin, että perustuslakeja voidaan muuttaa. Elämme ihmissuvun tähänastisen historian suurinta murrosta. Homo-suvun yli 2,5 miljoonaa vuotta jatkunut taival on päättymässä. Ihmiskunta voi tuhota itsensä. Se erottaa ihmisen maapallon kaikista muista eliölajeista. Mikä ihminen on? Kysymys on edessämme polttavampana kuin koskaan. Teossarja "Ehdotus ihmiskunnan uudeksi historiaksi" pyrkii vastaamaan tuohon kysymykseen. Siinä käydään läpi koko ihmissuvun tie nykypäivään ja tulevaisuuteen asti. Tämä ensimmäinen osa käsittelee Homo-suvun syntyä ja kehitystä yhteiskunnan ja varsinaisen nykyihmisen syntyyn noin 60 000 vuotta sitten. Varsin usein ihmisen esihistoriaa tutkivat empiiriset tieteet keskittyvät vain uusien fossiilien ja muiden arkeologisten löytöjen tutkimiseen. Mutta ihmisen salaisuuden selvittämiseksi tarvitaan filosofian johtamaa monitieteisyyttä, sanalla sanoen historianfilosofiaa. Suomalainen filosofi Matti Puolakka (1947-2018) on tietääksemme ainoana maailmassa luonut aikamme haasteita vastaavan historianfilosofian. Se on omaperäinen ja uusi, mutta ankkuroituu esihistoriatieteiden lisäksi lujasti aatehistoriaan. Ihmisolemukseen antaa näkökulmaa myös suurin kaunokirjallisuus. Pertti Koskelan teos perustuu Puolakan näkemykseen. Se käy laajasti läpi myös esihistoriatieteiden mullistavia tutkimustuloksia, joita on tehty 1950-luvulta lähtien. Mukana on myös essee "Ihmisen ja eläimen ero" (4. luku), Heli Santavuoren johdannoksi kirjoittama artikkeli puolakkalaisesta historianfilosofiasta sekä Koskelan omakohtainen esittely Matti Puolakan elämäntyöstä ja henkilöstä. Mistä ihmislajin itsetuhoisuus johtuu? Se on tämän ajan suuri kysymys. Siihen vastaaminen on aikamme tärkein eettis-intellektuaalinen haaste. Ihmiskunta voi selviytyä vain alkamalla rakentaa keskinäisiä suhteitaan itsetuntemuksensa varaan. Vain siten ihminen voi muodostaa harmonisen suhteen myös muuhun elolliseen luontoon. Ainoa eloonjäämisoppimme on tieto ihmisestä. Tämä ohjelmakirjanen sisältää uuden ja omaperäisen näkemyksen nykymaailmaan: aikakauden vaihtumiseen, demokratian kriisiin ja siihen, miten nykyajassa on jo nähtävissä piirteitä tulevaisuuden globaaliyhteiskunnan muodostumisesta. Tärkein pyrkimyksemme on yhdistää koko ihmiskunta keskustelemaan ja väittelemään historiansa perusopetuksista. Sitä varten esitämme myös joitakin käytännöllisiä ehdotuksia. Ohjelmamme perustuu suomalaisen filosofin Matti Puolakan elämäntyöhön. Tekstissä on hyödynnetty hänen tekstiarkistoaan, muistiinpanojaan ja puheitaan, jotka hän jätti yhdistyksellemme arkistoitavaksi ja julkaistavaksi. Liitteenä mm. Rapatti itse kertoo tämän runokokoelman synnystä seuraavasti: "Aloin aluksi kirjoittaa vain itselleni. Halusin selventää ajatuksiani ja tunteitani, suhdettani elämääni ja maailmaan. Huomasin, ettei pelkkä pöytälaatikkoon kirjoittaminen riitä. Runot oli tuotava muille ihmisille. Kun esittää runojaan julkisesti, joutuu asettamaan itsensä alttiiksi yleisön edessä ja seisomaan runojensa takana. Kokemus on hyvin puhdistava ja palaute välitöntä. Itselleni on tärkeää pohtia runoissa myös yhteiskunnallisia asioita. Se ei tarkoita erilaisten runojen arvottamista aiheiden mukaan. Runouden voima on sen monipuolisuudessa. Jokainen ilmentää omaa persoonallisuuttaan. Satojen kukkien on annettava kukkia. Kaikenlainen omaehtoinen kulttuuriharrastus voi saada innoituksensa ja kukoistaa vain avoimessa ja demokraattisessa ilmapiirissä, jossa ihmisoikeuksia kunnioitetaan. Totalitaarisissa oloissa joutuu valtion kontrollin alle tai harrastamaan itsesensuuria. Rehellisyydestä taas joutuu luultavasti vankilaan. Kaikenlainen vapaa kulttuuritoiminta on vallanpitäjien kannalta hyvin epäilyttävää. Sehän haiskahtaa ajattelulta. Ja ajatteluhan on nimenomaan vallan vihollinen."

Francis Fukuyaman referaatti aiheesta kuvaa hyvin myös sitä, mitä me tarkoitamme historianfilosofialla. Pertti Koskelan artikkeli "Ihminen on luonnostaan paha" keskittyy osoittamaan, että Kantin etiikkaa voidaan nykyisin perustella sillä uudella tiedolla, mitä meillä on ihmissuvun synnystä, ihmisen ja eläimen erosta sekä ihmisen pitkästä esihistoriasta. Tosin vain sillä edellytyksellä, että niistä on tehty filosofista yhteenvetoa. Näkökulmana Koskelan artikkelissa onkin Matti Puolakan filosofinen kokonaisnäkemys. Lehdessä myös joitakin Puolakan ex tempore -saneluita hieman editoituina. Hänen mukaansa nykytieto esihistoriasta vaatii ajattelua, päättelyä. Mikään empiirinen todiste yksinään ei riitä ehjän kokonaiskuvan muodostamiseen. Ihmisen hyvää ja pahaa käsitellään myös Heli Santavuoren artikkelissa, jossa arvostellaan Rutger Bregmanin menestysteosta Hyvän historia - Ihmiskunta uudessa valossa. The findings presented in this volume represent a concerted effort to develop a more inclusive form of reindeer management for northernmost Europe. Our guiding principle has been to foster a new paradigm of participatory research. We wish to move beyond the historical reliance on western approaches to basic and applied science. These have been concerned prim- ily with interactions between herded animals and the various components of their biophysical environment, e. g. , plants, insects, predators, climate, and others. In our view,sociocultural and economic drivers,along with herders’ experience-based knowledge,gain equal currency in the effort to understand how management may mitigate against the negative aspects of the challenges modern herding faces, while also exploring concepts of sustainability from different perspectives (see also Jernsletten and Klokov 2002; Kankaanpää et al. 2002; Ulvevadet and Klokov 2004). This broadening of the pool of disciplines and local,national,and int- national stakeholders in policy-relevant research invariably complicates v- tually all aspects of the research process. Multidisciplinary or, in our sense, transdisciplinary approaches also require extraordinary effort from all p- ticipants if they are to succeed. As such, those approaches should not be undertaken lightly, nor without personnel who possess appropriate expe- ence in cooperating with those of different disciplines and, preferably, also with relevant practitioners and public social and administrative institutions. In such settings the potential for misunderstandings is quite high.
