Win over colleagues, customers, and clients! To get what you want--be it in business or life--you've got to get people to give it to you. While you can use intimidation, manipulation, and seduction to achieve your objectives, such tactics won't win allies for the long haul. Persuasion outlines the process of influencing others and, most importantly, how to apply it. Inside you'll find answers to questions such as: How much should I reveal about a plan or project? How can I determine someone's true level of interest? How can I discern another's needs--and talk about my own--in a business situation? In today's business world, education, intelligence, and hard work alone won't deliver a win. The ability to persuade is the great differentiator and Persuasion gives the tools needed to seal the deal.

By all appearances the door was locked from the inside when the two shots rang out the actor took his own life, but someone, or something, drove him to it. The baron sets out to learn all he can about the actor s death in order to clear his name. Meanwhile, within a few days, similar apparent suicides are reported. What started out as a straightforward quest to establish Bischoff s last deeds and discover the truth of his death becomes a search through the ages for an invisible enemy identified only by the actor s dying breath, when he whispered: . . . the Day of Judgment. Leo Perutz combines his hallmark blend of suspense and the fantastic in this spine-tingling mystery.

The Humble Argument written by Roy K. Humble and has been published by Chemeketa Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-07-01 with Language Arts & Disciplines categories.

The Humble Argument is so much more than a writing textbook. It gives you tools, tips, and tricks that actually explain what a writer does. It doesn’t sugarcoat the process or dumb down the very real challenges that entering a college writing space requires. This book is more like a friend. It’s the kind of friend that will coach you through a tough time, encourage you, and make you laugh while you go through it. It’s the kind of friend who holds your hair back when you’re sick of writing and gives you the courage to try again. Roy K. Humble is the kind of writing teacher who understands the struggle of learning how to write arguments like a college student and doesn’t just tell you what you want to hear. His lessons here are profound, but in the sense that they are delivered by someone who wants you to feel included in the conversation about what good college writing should be. He writes to students in language they can understand without becoming English majors, with just enough humor to keep them reading. He writes for faculty, moving through the unadorned guiding principles of effective formal writing so that faculty have a great framework on which to build their classes. Perhaps most importantly, Humble understands that the price of a book matters to students, so his books are affordable. From every perspective, Humble gets it. The Humble Argument has students covered on these important topics: • Understanding argument as an idea • Grasping the stages of the writing process • Organizing an argument around rhetorical principles • Thinking for yourself as a college student • Crafting a careful and clear thesis • Gathering and synthesizing evidence to support a thesis • Guiding readers through a thoughtful, persuasive essay

Seminar paper from the year 2008 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Linguistics, grade: 8 ECTS (out of 10), University of Groningen, course: M.A. "Euroculture: Europe in the Wider World", language: English, abstract: In this paper the headline of English-speaking newspapers and magazines has been studied as an independent and effective persuasive element of a text. In this paper I want to discuss, how susceptible are we to linguistic style? How profoundly can the impact of a message be enhanced by the manner in which it is written, assuming that one and the same thought can be expressed with different stylistic tools? The choice of words reflects not only differences in evaluations (positive or negative) or in emotions - it is also able to thrust reader's attitude to the core of a message and to direct and control one's perception and comprehension. The paper claims that language can be a very powerful and persuasive tool which draws the readers' attention, being operated by skilful editors in a newspaper or magazine headline. In this regard, the purpose of the paper is to address and answer the research question: "How persuasion is realized linguistically across the English-speaking newspaper and magazine headlines?" The study of headline as a powerful and persuasive linguistic tool can be applicable to multiple spheres of public life and to various media of information (e.g.: political campaigns, slogans, advertising, publication of new directives issued by the European Commission, etc.). It is interesting to observe, what kind of stylistic devices and persuasive techniques news editors apply in headlines during the election campaigns in France (in 2007), in order to create public opinion or to provoke a certain reaction from the readers. Periodicals are cultural artefacts which are created and which function within a certain cultural context. That is, they operate within the value system of that culture. Schäffner noted that "any political
