"This report deal with toxicity tests with earthworms. Existing tests are listed and evaluated, and recommendations are given. The report presents a proposal for an earthworm risk assessment scheme to be used in connection with pesticide registration. A method for extrapolating from laboratory tests to effects on field populations is proposed."--page 4 of cover.

Effects of pesticides on soil fauna: Development of ecotoxicological test methods for tropical regions The impact of pesticides on the soil system is an issue of great concern. In the tropics, the environmental risk of pesticides is assessed using methods designed for temperate regions. This pioneer study shows that the toxicity of pesticides (here: two fungicides and an insecticide) measured under tropical conditions, e.g., higher temperature and different test species, can differ greatly from that determined for temperate conditions. Thus, a risk assessment of pesticides for tropical ecosystems based on existing toxicological data from temperate regions alone is not considered sufficient. Additional, adapted tests must be developed for tropical conditions.

The pesticide should cause effect on the target pests and be selective enough to spare the non-target beneficial. The book deals with the pesticide toxicity to predators, parasitoids and microbes which are used for pest management in the agroecosystem. The other beneficials exposed to pesticides are pollinators, earthworms, silkworm and fishes. The book contains information on the modes of pesticide exposure and toxicity to the organisms, sub-lethal effects of insecticides and method of toxicity assessment, risk assessment of pesticidal application in the field. The purpose of the work is to compile and present the different procedures to assess pesticide poising in organisms related to the agroecosystem along with discussions on risk assessment procedures with clear comparison of toxicity of pesticides to target pests and non target beneficial organisms.

Residues Of Ddt Dieldrin And Heptachlor In Earthworms During Two Years Following Application written by Charles D. Gish and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1982 with Earthworms categories.

Study plots were treated with specific quantities of active ingredient per hectare with either DDT, dieldrin, or heptachlor. Earthworms and soils were sampled from each treated plot at specific time intervals (up to 2 years after treatment) and analyzed by gas chromatography for specific pesticide residues. Individual and total metabolites in soils and earthworms tended to increase linearly with increasing levels of application. In soils, losses of specified biocides varied by species over time ranging from no significant loss to a decrease in heptachlor during the two years following application. In earthworms, maximum residues usually occurred 2-4 months after application, then declined. During the decline, residue levels were cyclic: levels elevated from late spring to early fall and depressed from late fall to early spring. High levels (usually May) and lows (usually January) coincided with seasonal high and low activity of eathworms.
