Il 1989, fu l'anno in cui Fortini decise di sistemare i suoi vari appunti ed articoli sulla traduzione del testo letterario e presentare la sintesi dei suoi interventi in materia traduttologica nella forma di un seminario da svolgersi in 4 lezioni distinte presso l'Istituto Filosofico di Napoli, ai cui programmi annuali egli era stato invitato a collaborare. Fortini rispondeva, in tal modo, ad un crescente interesse verso la traduzione, intervenendo sulle teorie sviluppatesi intorno ad essa in Europa ed in America, e coglieva l'occasione per elaborarne una sua propria, discorrendo con gli studenti e gli accademici presenti. Il testo delle lezioni fortiniane sulla traduzione, presentato in questa prima edizione del maggio 2004, a cura di Erminia Passannanti, borsista del corso napoletano, presenta il contenuto delle lezioni di Fortini nello stile di una trascrizione diretta dal supporto audio originale e ne conserva il fascino dell'esposizione orale.

[Italiano]:Nel ricco campo di studi sull’epica flavia, “Tremefacta quies. Spazi di transito in Stazio e Silio Italico” ha preso le mosse dalla vena di sensibilità postmoderna di testi che parlano pure al nostro orizzonte presente di cultori e cultrici di letteratura e psicoanalisi, testimoni di conflitti (e l’epica flavia è anche una macroscopica narrazione di conflitti). Tra i due autori la ricerca sviluppa il tema del sonno come transito e ossimoro, tra sonno e morte, insonnia, sogni e presagi. Svolgendo un percorso sistematico che mette al centro i testi, l’approccio filologico si apre ad ampi inserti narrativi e insieme alla messa a fuoco di una poetica di sonno/insonnia. Gli spazi di transito vengono a fuoco quindi nello studio di due traduzioni siliane dell’800, translation dei Punica all’interno della cultura classicista coeva a sfondo patriottico./ [English]: This research is built on three different topics, which are interwoven ("spazi di transito"). The first one deals with sleep, sleeplesness and dreams in Statius' Thebaid; secondly, Silius Italicus' treatment of the same themes are analyzed; thirdly, Onorato Occioni's translation of Punica 1 in 'endecasillabi sciolti' in XIXth Century in Italy are compared to the translation by Cesare Beligoni, with the conclusion of a certain amount of plagiarism. It is an original study, text-oriented and innovative, which gives a contribution to the rich scenario of Flavian studies worldwide.

Leonardo Manigrasso has made use of the most up-to-date tools made available by stylistic criticism and translation studies to offer a series of intense "debates" and comparisons between the greatest poets-translators born in Italy between the 1910s and the early 1920s. The choice to cross multiple versions of the same source text allows the reader to verify the multiple ways of implicit reading and rewriting during the translation process, establishing distances, documenting unexpected dialogues, exposing the bonds between the translated work and the "creative" work of each author. The interaction between different and remarkable textual features has the goal of reconstructing a fundamental chapter in the history of twentieth century poetry, from the birth of hermetic koinè to a notion of translating as a predominantly empirical and individual process.

Few places like Illiers-Combray offer the tangible measure of a myth that has involved not only readers and writers, but also those who have reflected on the meaning and structures of modern fiction. As the great criticism of the 20th century and the most innovative reflections on the method would not be conceivable without the Recherche. Auerbach, Curtius, Spitzer, Poulet, Jauss, Deleuze, Richard, Genette, Barthes..., as well as Solmi, Debenedetti, Contini, and Macchia in Italy, measured themselves with essays and/or memorable books, while Caproni, Fortini, Ginzsburg, Raboni... tried themselves with translation.
