Anagnorisis, or recognition, has played a central role in the arts and humanities throughout history. It is a universal mode of knowledge in literature and the arts; in sacred texts and scholastic writing; in philosophy; in psychology; in politics and social theory. Recognition is a phenomenon and a fulcrum that makes these discourses possible. To date, no one has attempted a comprehensive discussion of recognition across disciplines, places, and historical periods. Recognition and Modes of Knowledge is the culmination of an interdisciplinary conference on recognition with contributions from international authorities, including Piero Boitani, Roland Le Huenen, Rachel Adelman, and Christina Tarnopolsky. Students and experts in the humanities who desire a rich grounding in the concept of recognition should start with this book.

Hybrid Methods In Pattern Recognition written by Horst Bunke and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002 with Technology & Engineering categories.

The field of pattern recognition has seen enormous progress since its beginnings almost 50 years ago. A large number of different approaches have been proposed. Hybrid methods aim at combining the advantages of different paradigms within a single system. Hybrid Methods in Pattern Recognition is a collection of articles describing recent progress in this emerging field. It covers topics such as the combination of neural nets with fuzzy systems or hidden Markov models, neural networks for the processing of symbolic data structures, hybrid methods in data mining, the combination of symbolic and subsymbolic learning, and so on. Also included is recent work on multiple classifier systems. Furthermore, the book deals with applications in on-line and off-line handwriting recognition, remotely sensed image interpretation, fingerprint identification, and automatic text categorization.

Semantic Methods For Knowledge Management And Communication written by Radosław Katarzyniak Katarzyniak and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-08-04 with Computers categories.

The book consists of 31 chapters in which the authors deal with multiple aspects of modeling, utilization and implementation of semantic methods for knowledge management and communication in the context of human centered computing. It is assumed that the modern human centered computing requires the intensive application of these methods as well as effective integration with multiple techniques of computational collective intelligence. The book is organized in four parts devoted to the presentation of utilization of knowledge processing in agent and multiagent systems, application of computational collective intelligence to knowledge management, models for collectives of intelligent agents, and models and environments tailored directly to human-centered computing. All chapters in the book discuss theoretical and practical issues related to various models and aspects of computational techniques for semantic methods, which are currently studied and developed in many academic and industry centers over the world. The editors hope that the book can be useful for graduate and PhD students of computer science, as well as for mature academics, researchers and practitioners interested in developing of modern methods for representation, processing and distribution of knowledge in the context of human centered computing and by means of computer based information systems. It is the hope of the editors that readers of this volume can find in all chosen chapters many inspiring ideas and influential practical examples, as well as use them in their current and future work.

The importance of having ef cient and effective methods for data mining and kn- ledge discovery (DM&KD), to which the present book is devoted, grows every day and numerous such methods have been developed in recent decades. There exists a great variety of different settings for the main problem studied by data mining and knowledge discovery, and it seems that a very popular one is formulated in terms of binary attributes. In this setting, states of nature of the application area under consideration are described by Boolean vectors de ned on some attributes. That is, by data points de ned in the Boolean space of the attributes. It is postulated that there exists a partition of this space into two classes, which should be inferred as patterns on the attributes when only several data points are known, the so-called positive and negative training examples. The main problem in DM&KD is de ned as nding rules for recognizing (cl- sifying) new data points of unknown class, i. e. , deciding which of them are positive and which are negative. In other words, to infer the binary value of one more attribute, called the goal or class attribute. To solve this problem, some methods have been suggested which construct a Boolean function separating the two given sets of positive and negative training data points.

A Practical Guide To Problem Based Learning Online written by Maggi Savin-Baden and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-12-28 with Education categories.

Problem-based learning online is a burgeoning area, crying out for support in all the disciplines, but particularly health, medicine, education and social care that are already advanced users of problem-based learning in higher education. This book provides highly grounded research based ways for those wanting to change problem-based learning modules and programs from face to face to online approaches, as well as those who have developed e-learning components but who want to adopt problem-based methods. Providing an overview of the current state of problem based learning online, it examines why we're moving from fact to face to online provision, considers existing forms of provision, outlines common mistakes and strategies to avoid future problems, and shows how to effectively facilitate learning. Illustrated by mini case studies and examples of international projects, it provides guidance on effective design, online collaboration and group dynamics, and explores the common, and complex, decisions faced when choosing which form of problem-based learning to adopt. Including practical information and resources for games and activities, scenarios of problem-based learning in the different disciplines, advice for supporting staff and students, and effectively evaluating the tools, skills and pedagogy needed for learning, this book is an essential guide for all practitioners involved in the design and delivery of problem based learning online.
