L’inclusione sociale è sempre più presente tra i primi posti delle agende politiche nazionali e internazionali di questi ultimi anni. Ci si interroga sempre più sulle tematiche dello svantaggio e della povertà culturale, che sono alla base delle disuguaglianze educative e sociali. Le scienze dell'educazione sono chiamate a fornire il massimo contributo di ricerca e di intervento nell’ottica delle politiche di coesione dell’Unione Europea, proprio perché i diversi sistemi di istruzione, le politiche educative e gli interventi volti a ridurre le disuguaglianze sociali non sono ancora riusciti negli anni a ridurre i divari, le marginalizzazioni, le esclusioni, i livelli di dispersione e di iniquità nei sistemi scolastici e nella società. Il volume raccoglie le riflessioni, gli studi e le ricerche di studiosi nazionali e internazionali, per gettare uno sguardo “pedagogico” necessario ad indagare il sistema delle dispersioni nella scuola e nella società, e sottolineare la centralità delle relazioni e delle interconnessioni tra le diverse istituzioni educative. I diversi contributi sono stati presentati in un seminario di due giorni, organizzato dal Corso di Studi in Scienze dell’Educazione e della Formazione di Sapienza, Università di Roma. Un’occasione per aprire uno spazio di riflessione pedagogica tra esperti, professori e studenti, per approfondire la complessa tematica dell’inclusione sociale e il ruolo che le scienze dell’educazione possono e devono svolgere.

La scelta dell’inclusione parte da un coinvolgimento personale. Scegliere di includere vuol dire, prima di ogni cosa, scegliere di includersi, di mettersi in discussione, di ripercorrere la propria storia, di lavorare sulle proprie emozioni, sulla consapevolezza dei propri punti di forza e di debolezza. La scelta di includere è relativa all’includere l’altro come egli è, senza investirlo e caricarlo di aspettative proprie, ma impegnandosi a fornirgli gli strumenti necessari affinché un giorno sia lui a poter scegliere chi e come essere. La scelta di includere è prima di tutto una scelta etica, ed è proprio dalla dimensione etica, ossia dalla volontà di restituire alla nostra società l’integrità che perde ogniqualvolta una persona resta esclusa, che scaturisce la seconda dimensione, quella culturale e scientifica. La scienza, in particolare quella pedagogica, ponendosi al servizio dei processi di inclusione nei contesti reali, esprime la sua natura di scienza sociale, empirica e pratica, oltre che eidetica, che si alimenta nel confronto diretto con le esperienze e i contesti reali di cui si interessa. Questo volume intende, dunque, offrire spunti di riflessione teoricometodologici e strumenti per progettare e gestire un servizio educativo in condizioni di difficoltà, a partire da un’esperienza concreta, dalla sua genesi e dal suo sviluppo. In tal senso, si descrive quanto è stato realizzato in oltre dieci anni di attività di ricerca, di formazione e di educazione con bambini e genitori che vivono situazioni di devianza e rischio sociale.

Starting in the 1970s, the Italian government has passed a set of legislative provisions known as integrazione scolastica.
