DO YOU HAVE AN "OLD HAT" FAITH? Is the Bible simply a book that confirms what we already believe, or instead is our belief to be conformed to what is written in the book? Even the Gospel can become "old hat" to those who take their faith for granted. "Selective Belief" is written with a fresh look into what we think we already know about salvation and God's grace. The love of God for the sinners whom He saves is a story that never grows old. It is an eternal love story that we gladly tell to all who will listen. This book stems from many encounters with those who see God's only purpose as a sinner- saver. To many of these, this is the sole purpose for His existence. God is greater than this. He reigns in a glorious Kingdom where He currently rules as King. He has a Universe to manage, and a fallen world to bring to its ultimate conclusion. We will discover a God who is on the midst of working His eternal plan. In this eternal plan He graciously chooses to include as His own children people from the humanity of this earth to become heirs to His Kingdom and to become the recipients of His eternal blessings. This book will cause you to take a fresh look into the scriptures regarding God's choices regarding our salvation, as well as the process by which He brings it to come to pass in our life. It will challenge you to take another look into what you thought you already knew about your salvation.

Selective Evidence Gathering For Diagnostic Belief Networks written by Linda Christina Gaag and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1993 with Artificial intelligence categories.

Abstract: "The belief network framework for reasoning with uncertainty in knowledge-based systems has been around for some time now. As more and more practical applications employing the framework are being developed, it becomes apparent that the framework lacks with regard to explicit means for exerting control over reasoning. In this paper, we extend the belief network framework with a method for selective gathering of evidence for diagnostic applications. To this end, a belief network architecture is developed consisting of two layers: a probabilistic layer specifying a belief network and its associated algorithms, and a control layer providing the method for evidence gathering."

Selective Exposure To Communication written by Dolf Zillmann and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-07-04 with Language Arts & Disciplines categories.

First published in 1985. Research into what is usually referred to as mass communication has concentrated on the societal impact of the media. The ways in which these media influence people and affect their behavior have been at issue. For the most part, undesirable effects were pondered and documented. Only a few desirable effects received similar attention and scrutiny. The research preoccupation with impact has been so pronounced that, comparatively speaking, next to no attention has been paid to questions such as why people enjoy whatever they elect to watch or hear, and more fundamentally, why they elect to watch or hear, in the first place, whatever it is that they elect to watch or hear. Without a symposium on research into selective exposure to informative and entertaining messages nor a publication that brought together the recent research in this area, this volume was put together in an effort to end this dilemma and to put selective-exposure research on the map as a significant research venture.

Mediated messages flood our daily lives, through virtually endless choices of media channels, genres, and content. However, selectivity determines what media messages we attend to and focus on. The present book examines the factors that influence this selectivity. Seminal books on selective media exposure were published in 1960 by Klapper and in 1985 by Zillmann and Bryant. But an integrated update on this research field is much needed, as rigorous selective exposure research has flourished in the new millennium. In the contexts of political communication, health communication, Internet use, entertainment consumption, and electronic games, the crucial question of how individuals choose what content they consume has garnered much attention. The present book integrates theories and empirical evidence from these domains and discusses the related research methodologies. In light of the ever-increasing abundance of media channels and messages, selective exposure has become more important than ever for media impacts. This monograph provides a comprehensive review of the research on selective exposure to media messages, which is at the heart of communication science and media effects. It is required reading for media scholars and researchers, and promises to influence and inspire future research.

Violations of religious freedom and violence committed in the name of religion grab our attention on a daily basis. Freedom of religion or belief is a key human right: the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, numerous conventions, declarations and soft law standards include specific provisions on freedom of religion or belief. The 1981 Declaration on the Elimination of All Forms of Intolerance and of Discrimination Based on Religion or Belief has been interpreted since 1986 by the mandate of the UN Special Rapporteur on freedom of religion or belief. Special Rapporteurs (for example those on racism, freedom of expression, minority issues and cultural rights) and Treaty Bodies (for example the Human Rights Committee, the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination and the Committee on the Rights of the Child) have also elaborated on freedom of religion or belief in the context of their respective mandates. Freedom of Religion or Belief: An International Law Commentary is the first commentary to look comprehensively at the international provisions for the protection of freedom of religion or belief, considering how they are interpreted by various United Nations Special Procedures and Treaty Bodies. Structured around the thematic categories of the United Nations Special Rapporteur's framework for communications, the commentary analyses, for example, the limitations on the wearing of religious symbols and vulnerable situations, including those of women, detainees, refugees, children, minorities and migrants, through a combination of scholarly expertise and practical experience.

Trust And Skepticism written by Elizabeth J. Robinson and has been published by Psychology Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-04-16 with Psychology categories.

Children learn a great deal from other people, including history, science and religion, as well as language itself. Although our informants are usually well-intentioned, they can be wrong, and sometimes people deceive deliberately. As soon as children can learn from what others tell them, they need to be able to evaluate the likely truth of such testimony. This book is the first of its kind to provide an overview of the field of testimony research, summarizing and discussing the latest findings into how children make such evaluations – when do they trust what people tell them, and when are they skeptical? The nine chapters are organized according to the extent to which testimony is necessary for children to learn the matter in question – from cases where children are entirely dependent on the testimony of others, to cases where testimony is merely a convenient way of learning. Chapters also consider situations where reliance on testimony can lead a child astray, and the need for children to learn to be vigilant to deception, to ask questions appropriately, and to evaluate what they are told. With an international range of contributors, and two concluding commentaries which integrate the findings within a broader perspective of research on child development, the book provides a thorough overview of this emerging sub-field. Trust and Skepticism will be essential reading for researchers, academic teachers and advanced students working in the areas of cognitive development and language development, and will also be of great interest to educationists concerned with nursery and primary education.
