International students play a pivotal role in the Australian higher education landscape and the economy. In 2019 alone, international students' education services generated more than $40 billion in export income (money paid from overseas sources). Asian international students represent the largest segment, accounting for 83 per cent of the cohort in Australia. Despite their significant contribution – and well before the devastating impact of COVID-19 on the industry – international students were becoming disillusioned with Australia as a study destination. Asian International Students of Australia (AISA) suggests implementing strategies to attract and retain international students. These include: 1. End workplace exploitation 2. Grant travel concession in all jurisdictions 3. Provide safe and affordable accommodation.

Culture And Identity In Study Abroad Contexts written by Marie-Claire Patron and has been published by Peter Lang this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007 with Education categories.

This book examines the effects of a study abroad experience on students' culture and identity and the impact of these effects on their readjustment to their home culture. It explores issues of culture and identity from the perspective of French students studying in Australia. Issues of perceived cultural proximity between France and Australia, a relative lack of prior knowledge of the host country before the period of study and the impact of distance all influence aspects of these students' experiences. Employing long-term and cross-sectional studies focusing on culture shock, reverse culture shock and cultural identity issues, the author investigates the cyclical journey of French academic sojourners and examines the impact of the acculturation and repatriation processes and the language experiences on their perceptions of cultural identity. Once the students had traversed the difficult stages of culture shock and reached the stage of full recovery (adjustment), they no longer wished to go home. What impact has this process had on the returnees who faced the insularity of their home society once they returned home? Is the French community beginning to acknowledge the start of a brain-drain of the educated French overseas? What are the implications for borderless higher education? What value should be placed on pre-departure preparation from participating institutions and the individuals themselves, both on a linguistic and a psychological level? This book poses questions relating to these issues.

The University Experience written by Graham Little and has been published by [Carlton, Australia] : Melbourne University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1970 with Education categories.

What is the university to the 'normal' student? Is it an ivory tower, a community of scholars, the place of a liberal education? The original research incorporated in this book challenges many of the comfortable myths about tertiary education. Dr. Little conducted exhaustive interviews with 120 third-year students. He asked them why they came to university, what their parents' attitude was, whether they had non-university friends, what they expected of their lectures, whether they enjoyed their studies. Here, in their own words, are the answers. Three academic years have surprisingly little effect on the average student. He is not involved with radical or conservative student fringes. His family and friends have more impact than the academic staff. He has little informal or personal contact with his lectures and rarely wants more. He spends little time in extra-curricular activities at the university and seldom works beyond the syllabus. The university remains a static backdrop to a personal development which is a different kind for humanities and science students. This is a constructive and disturbing book.
