International students play a pivotal role in the Australian higher education landscape and the economy. In 2019 alone, international students' education services generated more than $40 billion in export income (money paid from overseas sources). Asian international students represent the largest segment, accounting for 83 per cent of the cohort in Australia. Despite their significant contribution – and well before the devastating impact of COVID-19 on the industry – international students were becoming disillusioned with Australia as a study destination. Asian International Students of Australia (AISA) suggests implementing strategies to attract and retain international students. These include: 1. End workplace exploitation 2. Grant travel concession in all jurisdictions 3. Provide safe and affordable accommodation.

Impacts Of Covid 19 On Studying At Australia S Universities written by Hongzhi Zhang and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-03 with categories.

The Covid-19 pandemic is a worldwide public health emergency that disrupted the international education sector at an unprecedented scale. Not only has the Covid-19 pandemic caused this enrolment decline, but it has led to an unprecedented shift to remote learning in higher education. The dramatic changes in teaching and learning activities significantly affected the experience of current international students who study onshore or offshore at universities overseas. This project presents the outcomes of a mixed-methods study on the learning experiences of Chinese international students enrolled in Australian universities during the pandemic of Covid-19 in 2020 and 2021. Following an analysis of the Australian and Chinese international education policies during the pandemic, and a review of relevant literature in the last two years, we surveyed 200 Chinese international students and further interviewed 25 of them in 6 focus groups. The participants provided valuable insights into 1) factors that motivated them to continue their studies during Covid-19; 2) problems and strategies for online learning; 3) opportunities and challenges they encountered; and 4) support they wanted for future learning. This project concludes that while the negative impacts of Covid-19 are evident, one should not deny the efforts made by both teachers and students, and the new learning opportunities brought to class by innovative adaptation strategies. It is important for us to develop a more comprehensive understanding of Chinese international students who have bravely embarked on their journey during the pandemic.
