Tailoring Surfaces Modifying Surface Composition And Structure For Applications In Tribology Biology And Catalysis written by Nicholas D Spencer and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-03-08 with Technology & Engineering categories.

The focus of this book is surface modification, with the goal of tailoring materials for a specific application. By means of this approach, ideal bulk properties of a material, such as its tensile strength (temperature stability, density, or even cost) can be combined with optimized surface properties, such as hardness, biocompatibility, low or high friction or adhesion, water repellency or wettability, or catalytic activity. The works of the author — many of his crucial papers are included — deal with the understanding and modification of surfaces and span fields including catalysis, analytical surface science, self-assembled monolayers, tribology, biomaterials, superhydrophobicity and polymer coatings.

Immunoassays written by Richard O'Kennedy and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-06-26 with Medical categories.

The concept behind this book is to provide a detailed and practical overview of the development and use of immunoassays in many different areas. Immunoassays are analytical tests that utilise antibodies to measure the amount, activity or identity of an analyte. This book is designed to provide a critical and helpful insight into the subject and to give the user practical information that may be of assistance in assay format selection, antibody generation/selection and choice of appropriate detection strategies. It is comprised of 13 chapters written by highly experienced researchers in the fields of antibody-based research, immunoassay development, assay validation, diagnostics and microfluidics. Beginning with a comprehensive survey of antibodies, immunoassay formats and signalling systems, the book elucidates key topics related to the development of an ideal antibody-based sensor, focuses on the important topic of surface modification, explores key parameters in the immobilisation of antibodies onto solid surfaces, discusses the move to ‘lab-on-a-chip’-based devices and investigates the key parameters necessary for their development. Three of the chapters are dedicated to the areas of clinical diagnostics, infectious disease monitoring and food security, where immunoassay-based applications have become highly valuable tools. The future of immunoassays, including next-generation immunoassays, electrochemical-immunoassays and ‘lab-on-a-chip’-based systems, is also discussed. The book also covers the use of optical detection systems (with a focus on surface plasmon resonance) in immunoassays, provides a compilation of important, routinely used immunoassay protocols and addresses problems that may be encountered during assay development.

Tribology In Materials And Applications written by Jitendra Kumar Katiyar and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-05-23 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This book broadens the knowledge of tribology. This book is evolved out of current research trends on tribological performance of systems related to nano tribology, rheology, engines, polymer brushes, composite materials, erosive wear and lubrication. The book deals with enhancing the ideas on tribological properties, the different types of wear phenomenon and lubrication enhancement. Further, the tribological performance of systems, whether nano, micro or macro-scale, depends upon a large number of external parameters and important among them are temperature, contact pressure and relative speed. Thus, the book focus on the theoretical aspects to industrial applications of tribology.

Watching Ultrafast Molecular Motions With 2d Ir Chemical Exchange Spectroscopy written by Michael D. Fayer and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011 with Science categories.

This unique volume presents a comprehensive but accessible introduction to the field of ultrafast two-dimension infrared (2D IR) vibrational echo spectroscopy based on the pioneering work of Professor Michael D Fayer, Department of Chemistry, Stanford University, USA. It contains in one place a qualitative introduction to the field of 2D IR spectroscopy and a comprehensive set of scientific papers that underlie the qualitative discussion. The introductory material contains several detailed illustrations, and is based on the Centenary Lecture at the Indian Institute of Science given by Professor Fayer July 16, 2008 as part of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the founding of IIS in Bangalore, India. The second part of the volume contains reprints of Fayer's relevant papers. The compilation will be very useful because it presents the historical background, motivation, methodology, and experimental results at a level that is accessible to the non-expert. The reprints of the scientific papers, from review articles to detailed theoretical papers, provide rigorous supporting material so that the reader can delve as deeply as desired into the subject.

Gilbert T Walker S Enduring Studies Of Climate Variability written by John Michael Wallace and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-12-20 with Science categories.

The new articles and reprints in this volume document the life and scientific contributions of British physicist and applied mathematician, Sir Gilbert T Walker (1868-1958). The collection bears witness to Walker's keen insights into statistically based climate prediction, the nature of atmospheric variability on time scales of a year or longer, and the detection and attribution of climate change. Chapter authors include Joy Monteiro, Timothy DelSole, Richard Katz, Jagadish Shukla, and Ka Kit Tung.Part 1 presents an overview of Walker's life and work while he was serving as Director of the India Meteorological Department from 1904 to 1924. Although he instituted many useful reforms, he did not achieve his goal of producing skillful predictions of Indian summer monsoon rainfall. While in India, Walker began writing a series of descriptive papers, based on statistical methods, in which he systematically documented the structure, seasonality, and evolution of the principal patterns of year-to-year climate variability — later known as teleconnection patterns — on a global basis.Part 2 provides an overview of Walker's work on teleconnection patterns. It features a reprint of his most widely cited paper, published in 1932, on his so-called North Atlantic Oscillation, North Pacific Oscillation, and Southern Oscillation. Parts 3 and 4 contain reprints of more recent papers relating to these patterns.
