The Integrated Leader is a contemporary search for the questions to which 'leader' or 'leadership' is an answer. Taking a thoughtful approach to management education and learning, this book explores and explains ideas not usually found in books written for managers. Its purpose is to provoke the kind of reflection and thinking that experience (and most leadership training) tends not to reach. The book will get leaders and managers to stop and think. This may not sound like much, but it is very important and significant. It represents a shift in gears in personal leadership thinking and is written for anyone who wants to ask better questions of themselves. The Integrated Leader is practical and also philosophical. It is easy to read and will reward multiple readings. Informed by the experience of practicing managers who re-enter education, it does not simply regurgitate tired old leadership theory. It neither talks down to the reader nor dumbs down any of the complex concepts needed to sustain organisational and personal health and well-being. The book includes between-chapter reflections on the Integrated Leader's Manifesto, an eleven-point declaration for leading self in various contexts. The Integrated Leader is a must-read for anyone sincere in their need for sustainable personal development.

The study of leadership remains one of the most prevalent and perplexing topics of study for both theorists and practitioners alike. Every theory and model proposed offers the promise of success, yet these theories never quite deliver what is intended. Theory itself is not at fault and neither is the execution of any particular premise. The issue is that most theories seek only one best solution--that one answer that will serve as a panacea for all the ills of every organization. This book makes no such claim and, in fact, argues against a one-size-fits-all theory. In an age of multidimensional diversity and growing workplace complexity, any singular choice made in regard to leadership will only be partially successful at best. This being the case, leaders should stop seeking the perfect leadership scenario or theory and begin to integrate the better parts of all relevant theories already available, thus creating a model that best fits the organization's particular set of circumstances. To do so however requires a different view of organizations themselves. We must discard the pyramid-shaped organizational chart and design organizations around relationships that place the follower first where the leadership emphasis is on enhancing each individual, thereby allowing each individual to enhance themselves and thus the organization. This approach is called affective leadership.

The Integrated Leader is an exercise in journaling and reflection, to take principles from the book of Nehemiah and to use those principles to bring leaders into a unified, integrated whole. This book is an explanation of the ten steps taken by Nehemiah to "integrate" his faith in the fulfillment of his calling, with application questions so that the reader might take similar steps to lead with integrity and to discern and fulfill one's God-given calling.Nehemiah was an integrated leader because he was an integrated thinker. He was one who had been taught to relate his activities to clearly defined ultimate goals and purposes. He had a clear sense of his calling and mission from God, and he was able to organize a large team to accomplish this great task. There are clear, discernable steps that he took as he embarked on this great project. Readers will take these same ten steps- Concern, Communion with God, Commitment, Calendar and Clock, Capital, Coordinating Others, Commence, Crises, Completion, Celebration- to have greater clarity regarding their God-given calling, while integrating one's faith in every area of one's life. "Come, let us rebuild the walls..." (Nehemiah 2:17- NIV).

BETTER BALANCE LEADS TO BETTER BUSINESS RESULTS Successful organizations of the future will be led by fully engaged, balanced teams of men and women working together synergistically to produce extraordinary results. Studies prove that organizations with a greater number of women in senior executive roles are more profitable, have greater market share, and are better able to compete and grow. Businesses with fewer women leaders are just plain leaving money on the table. Yet even in the twenty-first century, women are still not equally represented in leadership. In her groundbreaking new book, leadership expert Rebecca Shambaugh argues that business leaders need to embrace and leverage the broader spectrum of gender intelligence that fosters a balanced leadership perspective and yields better business results. Make Room for Her reveals: What an "Integrated Leadership" model looks like Why the Integrated Leadership approach is powerful--and sustainable What organizations, men, and women can do to harness the unique qualities of men and women How to ensure female talents don't go unnoticed Make Room for Her provides firsthand advice from men on how women can grow and advance to the senior leadership and executive levels, and it offers a female's perspective on how men can best coach and support them in doing so.
