'Imagination is more important than knowledge' is what Albert Einstein, possibly one of the finest minds of our time, said. In the illumination of this statement that a this children's book, The Magic That's Ours, has been written. This bright, inspiring book which was written as an alternative to TV, encourages children to make life-long friends with their imagination and change their world from the ordinary to the extraordinary. The book's illustrations which brim over with colour contain an element of mystery to prompt children to explore them and let their imagination fly freeWritten for children between the ages of 5 and 7, The Magic That's Ours is a goldmine of 'things to do' which call for young minds to adventure into their imagination. This makes it a useful tool in a multitude of situations from the school room to playgroups and with babysitters, parents and child psychologists."Reading excerpts from the book is about the only thing that keeps my class of 35 children still," says Wilhelmina Bozack, a grade two teacher. "They are enthralled by the story, which gets their imagination working overtime. The extent of the children's creativity during the fun time activities has been extremely rewarding to see. They tell stories, paint pictures and create games. The book tells the story of Joel and Jina who walk to school each morning through the countryside and across a river. Although their journey is alive with the joys of nature one morning something extra special happens-A cave appears. The children are drawn to the enchanting place and there meet a cute little creature called Imagi-nashun or Magic for short. He tells Joel and Jina - "Your imagination, or Magic, is everything that you can think up. Every time you think up a new story to tell, or draw a new picture or invent a new game to play, that's when you are using your magic."The Magic That's Ours features nine fun time activities, which widen the narrow horizons of the humdrum world to allow the child to reach for any possibility. Through this they learn the power of imagination is not only fun but can break down barriers, solve problems, invent, write stories and paint pictures.

The Sky Was Ours written by Joe Fassler and has been published by Penguin this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-04-23 with Fiction categories.

“An immersive fever dream of a novel, beautifully written and boldly imagined.” —Leslie Jamison, New York Times bestselling author of The Empathy Exams From prizewinning writer Joe Fassler comes a brilliant modern reimagining of the myth of Daedalus and Icarus as a story of obsession, longing, and the radical pursuit of utopia It’s 2005, and 24-year-old Jane is miserable. Overworked, buried in debt, she senses the life she wanted slipping away—while the world around her veers badly off course, hurtling toward economic and ecological collapse. She wants to find something better. But she has no idea where to start. In a sudden and unprecedented burst of rebellion, Jane decides to abandon everything she knows, leaving behind her relationships and responsibilities to go on the road. That’s how she meets Barry, a brilliant and charismatic recluse living on an isolated homestead near New York’s Canadian border. For years, in secret, Barry’s chased an unlikely obsession: to build a pair of wings humans can fly in, with designs inspired by an obscure precursor to the Wright Brothers. It’s no mere hobby. He’s convinced his dream of flight will spark a revolution, delivering us from the degradation of modern capitalism and the climate chaos that awaits us. Jane is captivated by Barry’s radical vision, even as his experiments become more dangerous. But she’s equally drawn to the enigmatic Ike, Barry’s gentle, thoughtful son, who’s known no other reality—and who only wants to keep his father alive, tethered to ground and to reason. So begins an inventive, dazzlingly beautiful story about the human desire for transcendence—our longing to escape the mundane and glide into a euphoric future. Inspired by the myth of Daedalus and Icarus, The Sky Was Ours is a powerful and imaginative debut that explores the question: If you had access to technology that allowed you to escape the confines of your life, would you use it? And if Barry’s wings really could change the world, would that be freedom?

When The Moon Was Ours written by Anna-Marie McLemore and has been published by Macmillan this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-10-04 with Young Adult Fiction categories.

Winner of the 2016 Tiptree Award! Longlisted for the 2016 National Book Award for Young People's Literature Stonewall Book Award Honor “McLemore’s second novel is such a lush surprising fable, you half expect birds to fly out of the pages... McLemore uses the supernatural to remind us that the body’s need to speak its truth is primal and profound, and that the connection between two people is no more anyone’s business than why the dish ran away with the spoon.” --Jeff Giles, New York Times Book Review Anna-Marie McLemore’s debut novel The Weight of Feathers was greeted with rave reviews, a YALSA Morris Award nomination, and spots on multiple “Best YA Novels” lists. Now, McLemore delivers a second stunning and utterly romantic novel, again tinged with magic. To everyone who knows them, best friends Miel and Sam are as strange as they are inseparable. Roses grow out of Miel’s wrist, and rumors say that she spilled out of a water tower when she was five. Sam is known for the moons he paints and hangs in the trees and for how little anyone knows about his life before he and his mother moved to town. But as odd as everyone considers Miel and Sam, even they stay away from the Bonner girls, four beautiful sisters rumored to be witches. Now they want the roses that grow from Miel’s skin, convinced that their scent can make anyone fall in love. And they’re willing to use every secret Miel has fought to protect to make sure she gives them up. Atmospheric, dynamic, and packed with gorgeous prose, When the Moon was Ours is another winner from this talented author.

Cuban culture has long been available to English speakers via translation. This study examines the complex ways in which English renderings of Cuban texts from various domains—poetry, science fiction, political and military writing, music, film—have represented, reshaped, or amended original texts. Taking in a broad corpus, it becomes clear that the mental image an Anglophone audience has formed of Cuban culture since 1959 depends heavily on the decisions of translators. At times, a clear ideological agenda drives moves like strengthening the denunciatory tone of a song or excising passages from a political text. At other moments, translators’ indifference to the importance of certain facets of a work, such as a film’s onscreen text or the lyrics sung on a musical performance, impoverishes the English speaker’s experience of the rich weave of self-expression in the original Spanish. In addition to the dynamics at work in the choices translators make at the level of the text itself, this study attends to how paratexts like prefaces, footnotes, liner notes, and promotional copy shape the audience’s experience of the text.
