Mindful Intelligence is a focus on mindfulness, as it relates to creating and understanding the "self." Mindful Intelligence helps you evolve as a human being, by giving you the superpower of knowing what you're up to (and why) at all times. Believe it or not, this doesn't happen by default! In the Introduction, meet Delores, the cantankerous lady who gave the author a hard time in the 90's, and whose lack of self-awareness inspired this book. With 52 topics and illustrative cartoons, learn how everyone can benefit from Mindful Intelligence in everyday life. This book has a companion app that goes deeper into each of the 52 topics, one a week for a year. Mindful Intelligence and the Making of You has one main goal: to convince you (with both mindful intelligence and humour) that you could know much more about your own thoughts, feelings, and actions. Each moment people have choices they aren't aware of if they're running the "self" on automatic pilot, or with a stressed-out mind. Old habits like unconscious fears, defenses, and judgments can be as limiting as a prison if you're not aware of how they affect choices and quality of life moment-by- moment. Many people's minds have stress, fear, and negativity taking up space where joy and contentment could be. Enter Mindful Intelligence. Learn to work with thoughts and emotions -in the moment- during everyday actions and reactions. Mindful practice helps you build a strong sense of self by encouraging you to create thoughts, feelings, and actions from the inside-out (proactive), instead of the outside-in (reactive). It reminds you to keep an eye on the medium your life is being filtered through: YOU. Ultimately, Mindful Intelligence helps you fully appreciate life, while noticing how the self interacts with and creates that life. Mindful Intelligence is for everyone from beginners to seasoned practitioners, and is built on 25 years of mindful practice, and the idea of making the world a more mindful place, one person at a time.

French and has been published by Liveright Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-10-12 with History categories.

Revealing the central yet intentionally obliterated role of Africa in the creation of modernity, Born in Blackness vitally reframes our understanding of world history. Traditional accounts of the making of the modern world afford a place of primacy to European history. Some credit the fifteenth-century Age of Discovery and the maritime connection it established between West and East; others the accidental unearthing of the “New World.” Still others point to the development of the scientific method, or the spread of Judeo-Christian beliefs; and so on, ad infinitum. The history of Africa, by contrast, has long been relegated to the remote outskirts of our global story. What if, instead, we put Africa and Africans at the very center of our thinking about the origins of modernity? In a sweeping narrative spanning more than six centuries, Howard W. French does just that, for Born in Blackness vitally reframes the story of medieval and emerging Africa, demonstrating how the economic ascendancy of Europe, the anchoring of democracy in the West, and the fulfillment of so-called Enlightenment ideals all grew out of Europe’s dehumanizing engagement with the “dark” continent. In fact, French reveals, the first impetus for the Age of Discovery was not—as we are so often told, even today—Europe’s yearning for ties with Asia, but rather its centuries-old desire to forge a trade in gold with legendarily rich Black societies sequestered away in the heart of West Africa. Creating a historical narrative that begins with the commencement of commercial relations between Portugal and Africa in the fifteenth century and ends with the onset of World War II, Born in Blackness interweaves precise historical detail with poignant, personal reportage. In so doing, it dramatically retrieves the lives of major African historical figures, from the unimaginably rich medieval emperors who traded with the Near East and beyond, to the Kongo sovereigns who heroically battled seventeenth-century European powers, to the ex-slaves who liberated Haitians from bondage and profoundly altered the course of American history. While French cogently demonstrates the centrality of Africa to the rise of the modern world, Born in Blackness becomes, at the same time, a far more significant narrative, one that reveals a long-concealed history of trivialization and, more often, elision in depictions of African history throughout the last five hundred years. As French shows, the achievements of sovereign African nations and their now-far-flung peoples have time and again been etiolated and deliberately erased from modern history. As the West ascended, their stories—siloed and piecemeal—were swept into secluded corners, thus setting the stage for the hagiographic “rise of the West” theories that have endured to this day. “Capacious and compelling” (Laurent Dubois), Born in Blackness is epic history on the grand scale. In the lofty tradition of bold, revisionist narratives, it reframes the story of gold and tobacco, sugar and cotton—and of the greatest “commodity” of them all, the twelve million people who were brought in chains from Africa to the “New World,” whose reclaimed lives shed a harsh light on our present world.

THE DEFINITIVE ACCOUNT OF THE MOST INFAMOUS STREET GANG IN AMERICA In the 1980s, El Salvador was involved in a bloody fight for control of the government. To escape the guerrilla assaults and death squads many fled to the US. As a survival instinct, they formed a group called the Mara Salvatrucha Stoners, a relatively harmless social network bound by rock and roll. But later, as they brushed against established local gangs, the group took on a harder edge, selling drugs, stealing cars and killing rivals who threatened their territories. As authorities cracked down, gang members were incarcerated and deported. But in the prison system, the group only grew stronger. Today, MS-13 is one of the most infamous street gangs on Earth, with tens of thousands of members operating in a half-dozen nations and two continents, and linked to thousands of grisly murders each year. Through the story of former gang member Norman and his family, journalist Steven Dudley brings readers inside the deadly group.

Had it with the vagaries of human behavior and life in this postmodern digital blanked-out waiting room that passes for a world. Reality TV, awful music, terrible drivers, megamalls, airports, family reunions, bad fashion choices, other people's monstrous children, and badly-behaved "adult" human beings are warping life in the twenty-first century into an often-unbearable endurance test of one's patience, fortitude, and faith. Funny, profane, blasphemous, and above all right on target, You're Making Me Hate You is pure Corey Taylor unleashed, exposing the underbelly of human depravity in all its ragged glory.

Winner of a 2019 International Book Award, Silver Medalist in the 2019 American Business Awards, Finalist for International Book of the Year at the 2019 Business Book Awards, and one of Forbes' Top Ten Business Books for 2018. A book for a different breed of business leader, one who looks beyond the moment to create a life of significance. Most of us are familiar with the traditional way of looking at legacy—something preserved in the past. Traditional legacy is all around us, evidenced by the steady churn of autobiographies, bequests, commemorations, and dedications we are forever leaving in our collective cultural wake. This is not the legacy you will find in this book. Legacy in the Making celebrates an active, dynamic form of “modern legacy,” seen through the eyes of a select group of extraordinary men and women who are pursuing their enduring ambitions in the age of now. More than caretakers of the past, these modern legacy builders are also the authors of a vital today and tomorrow. Rather than leaving their legacies behind them, they are looking ahead to harness their long-term ambitions and inspire others to help carry them forward. These are not static, traditional legacies. These are legacies in the making.
