Each of the writers in this contentious and thought-provoking collection is an artist and fine art educator at the School of Art, RMIT University. In the School of Art it is understood that the processes of undertaking the creative project - the experimental works and the testing of ideas right through to the finished artwork - is the research itself. Thinking Through Practice shows what the process of 'thinking' might mean through art and its practices. Each chapter moves us into closer proximity with what it means to think through making and all that is involved in sustained forms of creative practice - questioning, reviewing, reflecting, analysing, performing, speculating, relating, remembering, critiquing, constructing and ultimately further questioning.

This new series provides working art educators with accessible guides to significant issues in the field. Developments in art education are consolidated into a clear presentation of what a practicing teacher needs to know. Paramount to the series is the concept of informed practice, whereby important and often complex art education topics are put into the context of the working art teacher and real classroom environments. Concise analysis is put into the context of the working art teacher and real classroom environments. Attention is paid to creating the right classroom climate, and guidelines are offered for group dialogues. A wealth of specific activities for philosophical inquiry are explored, while activities for introducing and practicing skills are likewise analysed and offered for practical classroom implementation. By addressing aesthetics in real teaching terms, Thinking Through Aesthetics delivers needed support for front-line art educators.

Thinking Through Art written by Katy Macleod and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-01-11 with Art categories.

Focusing on a unique arena, Thinking Through Art takes an innovative look at artists’ experiences of undertaking doctorates and asks: If the making of art is not simply the formulation of an object but is also the formation of complex ideas then what effect does academic enquiry have on art practice? Using twenty-eight pictures, never before seen outside the artists’ universities, Thinking Through Art focuses on art produced in higher educational environments and considers how the material product comes about through a process of conceiving and giving form to abstract thought. It further examines how this form, which is research art sits uneasily within academic circles, and yet is uniquely situated outside the gallery system. The journal articles, from eminent scholars, artists, philosophers, art historians and cultural theorists, demonstrate the complexity of interpreting art as research, and provide students and scholars with an invaluable resource for their art and cultural studies courses.

Non Representational Geographies Of Therapeutic Art Making written by Candice P. Boyd and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-11-26 with Social Science categories.

Utilising non-representational theories and practice-led research methods, this book serves to reclaim therapeutics as ecological, spatial and material. It examines the sites and performances of a wide range of therapeutic art practices, including painting and drawing, dance movement therapy, fibre art, subterranean graffiti practice, and poetic permaculture. In doing so it provides an important assessment of the role and status of therapy in contemporary life. A highly interdisciplinary text, Boyd’s research is informed by a thorough reading of post-structural theory including contemporary feminism, Guattari’s ethico-aesthetic paradigm, Whitehead’s process-oriented ontology, and Deleuze’s writing on sense and the event. This innovative study will prove essential for scholars and practitioners of cultural geography, socially-engaged art, therapeutic studies, and occupational therapy.

Thinking Through Resistance written by Nicola Bulled and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-03-03 with Medical categories.

Acts of public defiance towards biomedical public health policies have occurred throughout modern history, from resistance to early smallpox vaccines in 19th-century Britain and America to more recent intransigence to efforts to contain the Ebola outbreak in Central and West Africa. Thinking through Resistance examines a diverse range of case studies of opposition to biomedical public health policies – from resistance to HPV vaccinations in Texas to disputes over HIV prevention research in Malawi – to assess the root causes of opposition. It is argued that far from being based on ignorance, resistance instead serves as a form of advocacy, calling for improvements in basic health-care delivery alongside expanded access to infrastructure and basic social services. Building on this argument, the authors set out an alternative to the current technocratic approach to global public health, extending beyond greater distribution of medical technologies to build on the perspectives of a political economy of health. With contributions from medical anthropologists, sociologists, and public health experts, Thinking through Resistance makes important reading for researchers, students, and practitioners in the fields of public health, medical anthropology, and public policy.
