With the support of the Office of Naval Research Program on Statistics and Probability (Dr. Edward J. Wegman, Director), The Department of Statistics at Texas A&M University hosted a Symposium on Time Series Analysis of Irregularly Observed Data during the period February 10-13, 1983. The symposium aimed to provide a review of the state of the art, define outstanding problems for research by theoreticians, transmit to practitioners recently developed algorithms, and stimulate interaction between statisticians and researchers in subject matter fields. Attendance was limited to actively involved researchers. This volume contains refereed versions of the papers presented at the Symposium. We would like to express our appreciation to the many colleagues and staff members whose cheerful help made the Symposium a successful happening which was enjoyed socially and intellectually by all participants. I would like to especially thank Dr. Donald W. Marquardt whose interest led me to undertake to organize this Symposium. This volume is dedicated to the world wide community of researchers who develop and apply methods of statistical analysis of time series. r:;) \J Picture Caption Participants in Symposium on Time Series Analysis of Irregularly Observed Data at Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas, February 10-13, 1983 First Row: Henry L. This book presents a selection of peer-reviewed contributions on the latest developments in time series analysis and forecasting, presented at the 7th International Conference on Time Series and Forecasting, ITISE 2021, held in Gran Canaria, Spain, July 19-21, 2021. It is divided into four parts. The first part addresses general modern methods and theoretical aspects of time series analysis and forecasting, while the remaining three parts focus on forecasting methods in econometrics, time series forecasting and prediction, and numerous other real-world applications. Covering a broad range of topics, the book will give readers a modern perspective on the subject. The ITISE conference series provides a forum for scientists, engineers, educators and students to discuss the latest advances and implementations in the foundations, theory, models and applications of time series analysis and forecasting. It focuses on interdisciplinary research encompassing computer science, mathematics, statistics and econometrics.

Smoothness Priors Analysis of Time Series addresses some of the problems of modeling stationary and nonstationary time series primarily from a Bayesian stochastic regression "smoothness priors" state space point of view. Prior distributions on model coefficients are parametrized by hyperparameters. Maximizing the likelihood of a small number of hyperparameters permits the robust modeling of a time series with relatively complex structure and a very large number of implicitly inferred parameters. The critical statistical ideas in smoothness priors are the likelihood of the Bayesian model and the use of likelihood as a measure of the goodness of fit of the model. The emphasis is on a general state space approach in which the recursive conditional distributions for prediction, filtering, and smoothing are realized using a variety of nonstandard methods including numerical integration, a Gaussian mixture distribution-two filter smoothing formula, and a Monte Carlo "particle-path tracing" method in which the distributions are approximated by many realizations. The methods are applicable for modeling time series with complex structures.

Climate is a paradigm of a complex system. Analysing climate data is an exciting challenge, which is increased by non-normal distributional shape, serial dependence, uneven spacing and timescale uncertainties. This book presents bootstrap resampling as a computing-intensive method able to meet the challenge. It shows the bootstrap to perform reliably in the most important statistical estimation techniques: regression, spectral analysis, extreme values and correlation. This book is written for climatologists and applied statisticians. It explains step by step the bootstrap algorithms (including novel adaptions) and methods for confidence interval construction. It tests the accuracy of the algorithms by means of Monte Carlo experiments. It analyses a large array of climate time series, giving a detailed account on the data and the associated climatological questions. “....comprehensive mathematical and statistical summary of time-series analysis techniques geared towards climate applications...accessible to readers with knowledge of college-level calculus and statistics.” (Computers and Geosciences) “A key part of the book that separates it from other time series works is the explicit discussion of time uncertainty...a very useful text for those wishing to understand how to analyse climate time series.” (Journal of Time Series Analysis) “...outstanding. One of the best books on advanced practical time series analysis I have seen.” (David J. Hand, Past-President Royal Statistical Society)

The second edition marks a substantial change to the ?rst edition. P- haps the most signi?cant change is the introduction of examples based on the freeware R package. The package, which runs on most operating systems, can be downloaded from The Comprehensive R Archive Network (CRAN) at http://cran. r-project. org/ or any one of its mirrors. Readers who have experience with the S-PLUS R package will have no problem working with R. For novices, R installs some help manuals, and CRAN supplies links to contributed tutorials such as R for Beginners. In our examples, we assume the reader has downloaded and installed R and has downloaded the nec- sary data ?les. The data ?les can be downloaded from the website for the text,http://www. stat. pitt. edu/stoffer/tsa2/ or any one of its mirrors. We will also provide additional code and other information of interest on the text’s website. Most of the material that would be given in an introductory course on time series analysis has associated R code. Although examples are given in R, the material is not R-dependent. In courses we have given using a preliminary version of the new edition of the text, students were allowed to use any package of preference. Although most students used R (or S-PLUS), a number of them completed the course successfully using other programs such R R R as ASTSA, MATLAB ,SAS , and SPSS . Another substantial change from the ?rst edition is that the material has beendividedintosmallerchapters.

The aim of this book is to discuss various aspects associated with disseminating personal or business data collected in censuses or surveys or copied from administrative sources. The problem is to present the data in such a form that they are useful for statistical research and to provide sufficient protection for the individuals or businesses to whom the data refer. The major part of this book is concerned with how to define the disclosure problem and how to deal with it in practical circumstances.
