This collection of topical essays by academics and industry professionals brings a unique lens to the issues broached, questions raised, and solutions offered regarding the history and advancement of digital fashion. While digital fashion's roots can be traced back to the development of the Jacquard loom, its modern-day antecedents are found in video games and Instagram filters - allowing users to apply virtual makeup, accessories, and clothes to their posts. With 12 essays and four specialist interviews, this collection begins with digital fashion's origins, its placement in the history of fashion, and its status as an aesthetic object. Part 2 focuses on the practice of making digital fashion, including NFTs, sneaker culture, cyborg vs skins and education. Part 3 provides a critical overview of digital fashion's potential to impact wider society, including questions of social equity, sustainability and African decoloniality and the future of the industry. Interviewees: Julie Zerbo, founder and Editor-in-Chief of The Fashion Law Idiat Shiole (Hadeeart), Web3 startup founder and 3D designer Jonathan M. Square, writer, historian, and curator of Afro-Diasporic fashion and visual culture Matthew Drinkwater, Head of Innovation Agency, London College of Fashion

Fashion Spaces Geographical Physical And Virtual written by Isabel Cantista and has been published by Leya this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-12-01 with Business & Economics categories.

As a collective work with diverse and varied contributions, this book is aimed at all those who work in and study the Fashion industry. One of the most visible and important dimensions of this industry is time, whose rhythm is managed through a continuous succession of collections and proposals. The spatial dimension is also particularly relevant, since the proposals of the fashion market are presented within geographical and virtual spaces. Within the Fashion industry there are distinct spaces that are considered by the entrepreneur or manager and - based on this reflection - fundamental decisions are then taken about locations within given geographical zones, the creation of new concepts and the layouts of stores, as well as social media visibility. Finally, the increasingly frequent presence of antennae that are either integrated or in contact with items of clothing brings our attention to the human body as the most important space of fashion and the need for its protection. This book thus gathers together some reflections on geographical, physical and virtual spaces in Fashion, illustrating current trends and seeking to contribute to innovation in fashion business. ISABEL CANTISTA is graduated in Law from the University of Coimbra (Portugal)and has a PhD in Management from the University of Sheffield (UK). For more than a decade she was involved at management level with Grupo Sonae, in the areas of Human Resources and Marketing. She has been teaching in Higher Education since 1987 and she is currently an Associate Lecturer at Universidade Lusíada do Porto and Guest Lecturer at AESE Business School. As Founder and CEO of the company FFI - Fast Forward Innovation, she seeks to promote innovation through the convergence between the academic and business world. Within this scope, since 2008 she has organised the Global Fashion Conference, which offers a multidisciplinary approach to Fashion, bringing together researchers and entrepreneurs from around the world. This book contains the research on modeling bodies, cloth and character based adaptation performed during the last 3 years at MIRALab at the University of Geneva. More than ten researchers have worked together in order to reach a truly 3D Virtual Try On. What we mean by Virtual Try On is the possibility of anyone to give dimensions on her predefined body and obtain her own sized shape body, select a 3D cloth and see oneself animated in Real-Time, walking along a catwalk. Some systems exist today but are unable to adapt to body dimensions, have no real-time animation of body and clothes. A truly system on the web of Virtual Try On does not exist so far. This book is an attempt to explain how to build a 3D Virtual Try On system which is now very much in demand in the clothing industry. To describe this work, the book is divided into five chapters. The first chapter contains a brief historical background of general deformation methods. It ends with a section on the 3D human body scanner systems that are used both for rapid p- totyping and statistical analyses of the human body size variations.
