How to hold on to your faith and rediscover joy when God seems silent, slow, unfair, different or wrong. What do you do when it feels like God isn’t there—when the state of the world, our own suffering, or the struggles of those we know suggest that God is absent? When you’ve experienced soul-crushing silence from heaven, despite your fervent supplications? Using the book of Habakkuk, as well as his own personal experience of deep suffering, Adam Mabry examines the art of lament—how to cry out to God in desperation from a place of faith and hope. Readers will learn that God is big enough and good enough to handle hard questions and that his sovereign silence is filled with purpose for their lives. They will be encouraged to keep trusting God even when he seems silent, slow, unfair, different, or wrong. There are video introductions for each chapter as well as very practical suggestions for what you can do to keep faith even in times of darkness and doubt.

Gammon is among the best preachers of the word of God practically applied that you will ever read. In this volume are collected his only surviving three works which, in their varied subject matter, draw the Christian closer to the Lord Jesus Christ. His first sermon is, "God’s Just Desertion of the Unjust," (from Revelation 22:11), showing that it is a comfort to the godly to be mercifully confirmed in holiness, and it is a terror to the wicked to be justly suffered to go on in his wickedness. His second sermon is, "The Praise of a Godly Woman," (from Proverbs 31:30) where he shows that "praise" is a debt that must be paid to those who have the true, "fear of the Lord." The fear of the Lord is the truest nobility, the noblest grace, that can ennoble and extol a man or a woman. Such should be praised for it by man, and by God. His third sermon is, "God’s Smiting to Amendment or to Revengement," (from Isaiah 1:5), where he shows what reasons God uses for professing believers when he strikes them justly for their sin. This is a serious call to true repentance, and those who do not repent spit in the face of God, and revel in self-love. With this, God will be severe. God is great in mercies when he strikes us to this end: that we should sin no more. In each of these three sermons, Gammon's exposition is by far the best treatment on all three subjects. These are works to read and pray through, looking for God to be merciful to further transform the Christian into the image of Jesus Christ. This work is not a scan or facsimile, has been carefully transcribed by hand being made easy to read in modern English, and has an active table of contents for electronic versions.

First-timeTranslation in English - - - The relationship between Christians and Jews has often been very tense, with misunderstandings of Paul's teachings contributing to the problem. Jacques Ellul's careful exegesis of Romans 9-11 demonstrates how God has not rejected Israel. The title is taken from the verse, "Is there some injustice in God?" The answer is a clear "no." God's election simply expanded outward beyond Israel to reach all peoples of the earth. In the end, there will be a reconciliation of Jews and Christians within God's plan of salvation. Written in 1991, three years before Ellul died, An Unjust God? brings a new understanding to a section of Scripture known for its conventional and limited interpretations. One significant feature of the book is Ellul's personal experience of the suffering of Jews under the Nazi regime; and this has direct bearing for the way he links the sufferings of Israel with the sufferings of Jesus. Ellul is then bold enough to say that a major reason why the Jewish people have not accepted Jesus as Messiah is because the Christian Church has not done well to emulate the Jewish Savior of the world.

Matthew 5:45, "that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust." (New King James) There are certain phrases unheard until something bad has taken place. Whether it is, "God is in control" or "everything happens for a reason," we can rest assured most people will not bring God into the picture unless something negative has transpired. Another common phrase uttered in difficult times is "God makes it to rain on the just and the unjust." However, as you read the words of Matthew 5:45 seen above, you may have noticed there is more to this commonly quoted portion of scripture than you may have known based upon what people say. In fact, I have not heard anyone say, "God makes the sun to shine on the just and the unjust." How can this be? Personally, I believe it is due to the fact that blaming God gives us an easy out when it comes to accepting responsibility for the struggles we face in life. Each problem we face in life comes via one of two avenues. The first is based solely upon our personal choices. There are times when we made a bad choice out of a lack of knowledge and paid the price for doing so. That price may have been light, but at other times, it may have been hefty. At other times, we may have known exactly what we were doing, ignoring all warnings and moving forward with a poor choice contrary to a lack of peace and additional red flags. Please understand, I do not say this in order to bring condemnation upon anyone, but to simply make a point, which is the fact that our choices are of utmost importance. On the other hand, there are times when the choices of other people will have an impact on our lives. We cannot control what others do and do not do, but we can always control how we react to anything we deal with in life. We can react in anger and fear, which will most certainly not cause us to focus on the Lord or we can react calmly, stepping back and allowing God to show us how to proceed according to His direction. One way or another, we must conclude that God is not the author of any problem we face in life. The simplest way I can make this point is by saying we cannot look to God as being the source of our problems and then turn around and look to Him as being the solution to the same problems. This may seem like a radical concept. However, if you are a person who has found yourself dealing with one struggle after another and receiving advice from others, ultimately pointing to God as being the source of your struggles, I have great news for you! He is not the one who is allowing or causing your problems! If you are interested in being set free from the hamster wheel of struggles, please turn to the first page of chapter one!

Is the God of the Bible the most unpleasant character in all fiction, as Richard Dawkins claims in The God Delusion? He is backed up by former preacher and now virulent atheist, Dan Barker, who has cited Scripture, seeking to justify every one of Dawkins's infamous character slurs about the God of the Old Testament. Dawkins says the biblical God is "jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully." Barker has added eight accusations of his own. Dawkins was too kind, he says. The God of the Bible is also "a pyromaniacal, angry, merciless, curse hurling, vaccicidal, aborticidal, cannibalistic slavemonger." Furthermore, Barker thoroughly implicates Jesus in the alleged crimes of his Father. God is Good seeks to answer every one of these twenty-seven accusations. Written for theological students, pastors, preachers, thoughtful laypeople who wince at some of what they read in the Bible, and those atheists who are honestly searching for truth, this book ducks none of the difficult questions and problematic passages.
