Do you wake up in the morning excited to come to work? Are you valued as an employee? As a person? Do you feel part of the company as a whole? Do you leave work with a sense of accomplishment? It would be wonderful if we all could answer yes to these questions. But, sadly, that is not always the case. Despite the flood of books on business leadership and creating a positive and dynamic corporate culture-directed for the most part at decision makers in the C-suite-too many employers still fall short of the mark. These advice books often have little impact on the work lives of those on the front lines. Yet frontline staff make up the largest demographic in today's workforce. Although frontline staff have been referred to as those essential workers who have helped so many in our country and around the world during the COVID-19 pandemic, for the purposes of this book, we define frontline staff as all the people who make an organization run efficiently and effectively (from the custodian to the supervisor). The average person spends more waking hours at work than they do anywhere else. And that's why we believe strongly that the workplace should be an environment where employees are valued and shown that they are a necessary part of the whole team, department, and organization. We are passionate about helping this group of people-YOU-find ways to enhance their work life. Why? Because we have been there. We have experienced firsthand what it is like to work in the trenches-we remember how we were treated, how we were looked at, and what was expected of us. Combined, we have more than forty years of experience in nonmanagerial positions in both for-profit and nonprofit industries such as manufacturing, retail sales, consulting, medical administration, and education. Mary was a single parent who raised three kids, worked full-time, and went back to school at forty-two. Kimberley has been married for more than twenty years and made a major life change-going back to school to obtain her PhD-while she and her husband were raising three teenagers.

A highly practical guide to help leaders make intentional choices and draw on their assets, thoughts, emotions, and behaviors to influence others, bridge differences, and initiate positive change. Reframing Change: How to Deal with Workplace Dynamics, Influence Others, and Bring People Together to Initiate Positive Change is based on the premise that if people act with integrity and learn to develop positive workplace relationships, a ripple effect can engender similar changes in the organization as a whole. Of extraordinary value to leaders, middle managers, and management students, it is a fresh and practical how-to manual for putting new ways of thinking to work in an organizational setting—one that backs its advice with results from a rapidly growing body of rigorous social science research. Organized around a series of essential skills, Reframing Change shows readers how to test assumptions about others, clear negative emotions and augment positive ones, build effective relationships, bridge cultural differences with people, deal with difficult situations, and initiate change in work environments. This advice is driven home with the stories of real people in real situations that explain key underlying principles, with a single storyline running through each chapter.

Thanks to global news and social media, we are the most informed and socially conscious generation in history. But what are the sources of inner inspiration that guide our daily conduct and motivations in the workplace? Far from the old Machiavellian dictum that "the ends justify the means", the reverse is often the case: the means determine the ends. This book presents the stories of business leaders who have aimed to build trust in the economy, and have delivered value through integrity, cooperation, stewardship, purpose and sustainability. It proposes the eight Cs of trust which can define the culture of organizations: contracts, covenants, competences, character, conscience, conviction, courage and change. The book makes the clear link between personal decision-making and global outcomes and demonstrates how positive decision-making can lead to change inside organizations and beyond.

Finding the courage to embrace change and take chances is the only way to succeed. Business, culture, and competitive landscapes have fundamentally changed, but basic principles and best practices for succeeding and future-proofing both yourself and your organization haven’t. With a mix of compelling stories, research from the social sciences and psychology, and real-world insights, Make Change Work for You shows readers how to reignite their career, rekindle their creativity, and fearlessly innovate their way to success by providing the tools needed to master uncertainty and conquer every challenge they’ll face in life or business. Make Change Work for You opens with an overview of the most common factors that lead to self-defeating behaviors, including fear of failure, embarrassment, underperformance, rejection, confrontation, isolation, and change itself. Using a simple four-part model, Steinberg guides readers to understand and better respond to the challenges that change can bring: Focus: Define the problem and come to understand it objectively. Engage: Interact with the challenge and try a range of solutions. Assess: Review the response(s) generated by your tactics. React: Adjust your strategy accordingly. And, finally, the book shows readers how to develop the vital personal and professional skills required to triumph in the “new normal” by understanding and engaging in the 10 new habits that highly successful people share: 1. Play the Odds 2. Embrace Tomorrow Today 3. Seek Constant Motion 4. Lead, Don’t Follow 5. Never Stop Learning 6. Create Competitive Advantage 7. Connect the Dots 8. Pick Your Battles 9. Set and Align Your Priorities 10. Always Create Value
