Whole Brain Behaviour Management In The Classroom written by Chris Derrington and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-10-18 with Education categories.
Representing a brave and insightful shift away from narrow perspectives on behaviour management, this book draws practitioners towards a more holistic understanding of ourselves and how we impact on children’s learning and behaviour. The authors’ brilliant new conceptual model of ‘whole-brain’ behaviour management challenges existing theories about the management of children’s behavioural issues. Their pioneering ‘whole-brain’ approach draws upon a range of influences and concepts that cross discipline boundaries, expanding on the practitioner’s understanding of the complexity of children’s behaviour through their own knowledge of neuroscience, biopsychosocial theory and interpersonal awareness. The book will take the reader through a process of self-evaluation in which their preferred ways of thinking, acting and relating will be explored and interpreted in order to help them understand the impact of their ‘personal style’ on how the children in their care behave. Offering new insights and creative solutions, this is a practical guide to coach practitioners in their personal and professional development, helping them to raise the achievement of children exhibiting even the most challenging of behaviour.

Handbook Of Classroom Management written by Carolyn M. Evertson and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-10-31 with Education categories.
Classroom management is a topic of enduring concern for teachers, administrators, and the public. It consistently ranks as the first or second most serious educational problem in the eyes of the general public, and beginning teachers consistently rank it as their most pressing concern during their early teaching years. Management problems continue to be a major cause of teacher burnout and job dissatisfaction. Strangely, despite this enduring concern on the part of educators and the public, few researchers have chosen to focus on classroom management or to identify themselves with this critical field. The Handbook of Classroom Management has four primary goals: 1) to clarify the term classroom management; 2) to demonstrate to scholars and practitioners that there is a distinct body of knowledge that directly addresses teachers’ managerial tasks; 3) to bring together disparate lines of research and encourage conversations across different areas of inquiry; and 4) to promote a vigorous agenda for future research in this area. To this end, 47 chapters have been organized into 10 sections, each chapter written by a recognized expert in that area. Cutting across the sections and chapters are the following themes: *First, positive teacher-student relationships are seen as the very core of effective classroom management. *Second, classroom management is viewed as a social and moral curriculum. *Third, external reward and punishment strategies are not seen as optimal for promoting academic and social-emotional growth and self-regulated behavior. *Fourth, to create orderly, productive environments teachers must take into account student characteristics such as age, developmental level, race, ethnicity, cultural background, socioeconomic status, and ableness. Like other research handbooks, the Handbook of Classroom Management provides an indispensable reference volume for scholars, teacher educators, in-service practitioners, and the academic libraries serving these audiences. It is also appropriate for graduate courses wholly or partly devoted to the study of classroom management.

Behaviour management in the classroom can be one of the most challenging aspects of teaching, but with the right approach it can be rewarding and enriching for both student and teacher. A Comprehensive Guide to Classroom Management provides a systematic overview of the major theories and styles of discipline in schools. Drawing on the latest international research, Porter outlines how teachers can develop a personal style in classroom management based on a sound understanding of theory. The emphasis is on proactive, authoritative approaches to discipline to engage students and facilitate the achievement of educational and social goals. Porter demonstrates how it is within the power of schools and teachers to create the conditions under which even disadvantaged or disenchanted students strive to learn. A Comprehensive Guide to Classroom Management is the essential handbook for preservice teachers and a valuable reference for more experienced teachers who want to develop their approach to complex behavioural challenges. 'True to its title, this is an enormously ambitious - indeed, encyclopaedic - resource that makes a compelling, multilayered case for putting respect for children's needs ahead of our urge to control them.' - Alfie Kohn, author of Beyond Discipline and Punished by Rewards 'There is so much to admire and absorb in this impressive and highly readable blend of research, idealism and sound sense - highly recommended for principals, aspiring school leaders and reflective practitioners teaching students with behavioural difficulties.' - Dr Ted Cole, lead editor of The Routledge International Companion to Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties
