This book addresses the urgent need for an educational framework that integrates digital multiliteracies with global competence. As technology reshapes how we communicate, learn, and work, educators face the challenge of preparing students not just academically but as informed, ethical participants in a digital and global community. Furthermore, as classrooms become more culturally diverse, the importance of inclusive practices and intercultural competence cannot be overstated. The author sets out to resolve a gap in current educational practices that often separate technology integration, language learning, and global education into distinct compartments. This separation fails to equip learners with the holistic skill set required in the 21st century. The book proposes a transformative approach that synergizes these elements, presenting a comprehensive curriculum framework designed to cultivate digitally literate, globally competent, and socially responsible individuals. By providing practical strategies, theoretical foundations, and real-world applications, DIGICOMPASS aims to revolutionize global language education. It not only advocates for the integration of adaptive learning technologies and digital multiliteracies but also emphasizes the importance of fostering an inclusive, culturally aware, and ethically engaged learning environment. This comprehensive approach addresses the modern educational landscape's complexities, preparing learners to thrive in a culturally diverse and digitally interconnected world. The book will be of particular interest to educators, curriculum developers, policymakers, and educational technology specialists interested in integrating digital multiliteracies into language education. It will also appeal to scholars and students in the fields of TESOL, educational technology, global education, and curriculum design.

By integrating sustainability themes into language curricula, educators can empower learners to become critical thinkers, effective communicators, and engaged global citizens. Through the exploration of environmental issues, students develop the linguistic competence to discuss complex challenges, propose solutions, and advocate for change. Moreover, language learning can foster intercultural understanding and appreciation for diverse perspectives on sustainability, promoting collaboration and cooperation across boundaries. A linguistic pathway to sustainability involves a holistic approach that encompasses various dimensions of language education. Ecolinguistics, a field that investigates the relationship between language and the environment, provides a theoretical framework for analyzing how language shapes our perception of the natural world. By examining the language used in media, politics, and advertising, learners can develop a critical awareness of how discourse influences attitudes and behaviors towards the environment. Additionally, content-based instruction, which integrates language learning with specific subject areas such as environmental science, offers opportunities for in-depth exploration of sustainability topics. Ultimately, language teaching and linguistic pathways to sustainability aim to cultivate a generation of environmentally literate individuals who can contribute to a more just and equitable world. By equipping learners with the language skills and critical thinking abilities to address complex environmental challenges, educators can play a pivotal role in shaping a sustainable future.

Curriculum maps are among the simplest yet most effective tools for improving teaching and learning. Because they require people to draw explicit connections between content, skills, and assessment measures, these maps help ensure that all aspects of a lesson are aligned not only with each other, but also with mandated standards and tests. In Getting Results with Curriculum Mapping, Heidi Hayes Jacobs and her coauthors offer a wide range of perspectives on how to get the most out of the curriculum mapping process in districts and schools. In addition to detailed examples of maps from schools across the United States, the authors offer concrete advice on such critical issues as * Preparing educators to implement mapping procedures, * Using software to create unique mapping databases, * Integrating decision-making structures and staff development initiatives through mapping, * Helping school communities adjust to new curriculum review processes, and * Making mapping an integral part of literacy training. Teachers, administrators, staff developers, and policymakers alike will find this book an essential guide to curriculum mapping and a vital resource for spearheading school improvement efforts. Exploring Education And Professional Practice written by Kathleen Mahon and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-12-20 with Education categories.
This book was written to help people understand and transform education and professional practice. It presents and extends the theory of practice architectures, and offers a contemporary account of what practices are composed of and how practices shape and are shaped by the arrangements with which they are enmeshed in sites of practice. Through its empirically-based case chapters, the book demonstrates how the theory of practice architectures can be used as a theoretical, analytical, and transformational resource to generate insights that have important implications for practice, theory, policy, and research in education and professional practice. These insights relate to how practices are shaped by arrangements (and other practices) present in specific sites of practice, including early childhood education settings, schools, adult education, and workplaces. They also relate to how practices create distinctive intersubjective spaces, so that people encounter one another in particular ways (a) in particular semantic spaces, (b) that are realised in particular locations and durations in physical space-time, and (c) in particular social spaces. By applying such insights, readers can work towards changing practices by transforming the practice architectures that make them possible.

A Science “Reading List for Uncertain Times” Selection “A must-read for anyone with even a passing interest in the present and future of higher education.” —Tressie McMillan Cottom, author of Lower Ed “A must-read for the education-invested as well as the education-interested.” —Forbes Proponents of massive online learning have promised that technology will radically accelerate learning and democratize education. Much-publicized experiments, often underwritten by Silicon Valley entrepreneurs, have been launched at elite universities and elementary schools in the poorest neighborhoods. But a decade after the “year of the MOOC,” the promise of disruption seems premature. In Failure to Disrupt, Justin Reich takes us on a tour of MOOCs, autograders, “intelligent tutors,” and other edtech platforms and delivers a sobering report card. Institutions and investors favor programs that scale up quickly at the expense of true innovation. Learning technologies—even those that are free—do little to combat the growing inequality in education. Technology is a phenomenal tool in the right hands, but no killer app will shortcut the hard road of institutional change. “I’m not sure if Reich is as famous outside of learning science and online education circles as he is inside. He should be...Reading and talking about Failure to Disrupt should be a prerequisite for any big institutional learning technology initiatives coming out of COVID-19.” —Inside Higher Ed “The desire to educate students well using online tools and platforms is more pressing than ever. But as Justin Reich illustrates...many recent technologies that were expected to radically change schooling have instead been used in ways that perpetuate existing systems and their attendant inequalities.” —Science
