Die Erkenntnis, dass das Gehirn Entscheidungen nicht wie bislang angenommen rational, sondern vorwiegend emotional trifft, hat neue Forschungsansätze, wie das Neuromarketing, hervorgebracht. Diese versuchen die Muster nach denen Entscheidungsprozesse im Gehirn ablaufen zu entschlüsseln. Durch die Weiterentwicklung der bildgebenden Verfahren ist es gelungen neue Erkenntnisse unter anderem für das Marketing abzuleiten. So konnte beispielsweise die Rolle von Emotionen und des Unbewussten bei Kaufentscheidungen erforscht werden. Auch in Zukunft können bildgebende Verfahren bei der Weiterentwicklung des Produkt- und Serviceangebots helfen, wie der renommierte Harvard-Professor Gerald Zaltman postuliert: „(...) neuroimaging techniques will likely serve as helpful tools in bringing better and more meaningful goods and services to consumers.“ Für das Online-Marketing ergeben sich ebenfalls neue Ansätze bezüglich der Kundenkommunikation sowie der Kundenansprache durch Werbung und in Online-Shops. Statische Websites sprechen die Emotionszentren des Gehirns kaum an. Jedoch ist es in einer Welt, in der die Geschwindigkeit der Informationsverarbeitung stetig zunimmt, für Unternehmen wichtig, sich mit starken Marken in den Köpfen der Konsumenten zu verankern. Bei der Flut an Werbeinformationen, denen die Verbraucher heutzutage ausgesetzt sind, ist es für Unternehmen schwierig sich von der Konkurrenz abzuheben. Daher ist es umso bedeutender, die Erkenntnisse des Neuromarketings für sich zu nutzen.
