Preparative Chromatography Techniques written by Kurt Hostettmann and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-04-17 with Science categories.

Over the last few years several new instrumental techniques have been introduced for chromatographie separations. In addition, rapid developments in existing methods, such as preparative HPLC, have taken place. Despite these advances, how ever, a handbook covering the various preparative aspects ofthe new separation tech niques does not exist. This book is an attempt to fill the gap and to present a compila tion of modern separation techniques that will be useful for researchers faced with day-to-day preparative problems. Numerous examples of separations have been selected in order to show the possibilities (and also the limits) of each technique treated. These are often either applications from our own laboratory or else they reflect the approach we have been following for the isolation of natural products from plant sourees. Owing to the large number of published papers and the diversity of secondary plant constituents. an exhaustive survey of the literature has not been undertaken. We hope, however, that the examples selected will suggest to the reader which technique(s) and which conditions to choose for a particular isolation problem in the field of natural products. For invaluable help in the preparation of the manuscript for this book, we would like to thank Corinne Appolonia and Christine Marston. Lausanne, November 1985 K. Hostettmann M. Hostettmann A . . Marston Foreword Although not many people realize this, isolation and purification of biologically active materials is becoming increasingly crucial.

This interdisciplinary approach combines the chemistry and engineering involved to describe the conception and improvement of chromatographic processes. The book covers recent developments in preparative chromatographic processes for the separation of "smaller" molecules using standard laboratory equipment as well as the detailed conception of industrial chemical plants. Following an introductory section on the history of chromatography, the current state of research and the design of chromatographic processes, the book goes on to define the general terminology. There then follow sections on solid materials and packed columns process concepts. Final chapters on modeling and determination of model parameters, the design and optimization of preparative chromatographic processes and chromatographic reactors allow for the optimum selection of chromatographic systems. Essential for chemists and engineers working in the chemicals and pharmaceutical industries as well as for food technologies, due to the interdisciplinary nature of these processes.

Modeling For Preparative Chromatography written by Georges Guiochon and has been published by Academic Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003-05-19 with Science categories.

Nonlinear chromatography is a field that borders both chemical engineering and physical chemistry. In turn, the theory of nonlinear chromatography is the foundation of preparative chromatography, a separation process that has lately become of considerable interest in the pharmaceutical industry. Only chromatography is sufficiently flexible and powerful to satisfy the practical requirements encountered in most difficult separations of pharmaceuticals and pharmaceutical intermediates. Since "nonlinear" behaviour is strictly a mathematical concept, it is difficult to leave mathematics out of any fundamental study of nonlinear chromatography. Therefore, Modeling for Preparative Chromatography will describe the different mathematical models of chromatography, examine the assumptions on which they are based, consider their properties, and discuss their solutions. All this will be done from a mathematical analysis point of view, paying considerable attention to the influence of nonlinear behavior on the results. Clear and simple discussions of the basic physico-chemical phenomena involved in HPLC Clear and complete presentation of the relevant properties of the mathematical tools involved Detailed analysis of nonlinear effects

This chapter describes rivalling operating modes applied industrially in preparative chromatography. After recapitulating the basic features of the “workhorse” and reference in the field, namely, isocratic batch elution, at first, more-sophisticated concepts are presented that offer additional degrees of freedom but maintain the discontinuous character of the separation process. Subsequently, process options are described that possess the potential to perform the separations continuously. Hereby, mainly the most successful multicolumn concepts are explained, which are based on realizing highly efficient countercurrent transport processes. Finally, the important aspect is addressedL how different process alternatives can be evaluated and compared quantitatively.
