Un sondage mené en ligne auprès de postéditeurs du Canada et d'ailleurs montre que les compétences traductionnelles et rédactionnelles sont les plus utiles en PÉ, suivies des compétences en correction et d'aspects profession¬nels; les connais¬sances spécialisées et les compétences en informatique arrivent aux derniers rangs. Le sondage montre de plus que si les compétences traductionnel¬les et rédactionnel¬les sont généralement acquises pendant la formation universitaire en traduction, ce n'est pas le cas des compétences en correction, et encore moins des aspects professionnels : deux éléments à intégrer en priorité à la formation des traducteurs-postéditeurs pour la bonifier. La thèse propose deux formules susceptibles de favoriser l'intégration des éléments prioritaires pour mieux préparer les traducteurs-postéditeurs de demain.

Le but de ce mémoire est de vérifier si les étudiants qui font des études en traduction au niveau Master en Europe ont la possibilité de suivre des cours de révision et/ou de post-édition, quelle que soit la forme du cours, à savoir spécifique ou intégrées dans un autre cours. Nous nous sommes concentré sur les formations et les universités qui font partie de lEMT et de la CIUTI, deux organisations qui ont un prestige considérable dans le monde traductionnel. Nous avons recherché les formations et dépouillé leurs programmes détudes afin de déterminer loffre de cours en la matière. La situation en Europe est de plus comparée à celle au Canada, qui constitue un grand acteur dans le domaine de la révision. Dun autre côté, nous sommes intéressé aux formations suivies par les actuels réviseurs et post-éditeurs dans les bureaux de traduction européens. Dans ce but, nous avons établi une enquête dont la question principale était celle de savoir si les répondants ont suivi un cours en la matière pendant leurs études. Le choix des bureaux de traduction sest fait principalement sur la base dELIA, une organisation qui regroupe un grand nombre de bureaux de traduction européens. Lenquête a aussi été diffusée parmi les plus grand bureaux de traduction belges et la Direction Générale de la Traduction. Pour répondre à notre question de recherche, à savoir la place de la révision et de la post-édition dans les formations de traducteurs, nous avons concentré notre étude de la littérature sur la définition, les compétences et lenseignement de la révision et de la post-édition. La partie méthodologie offre une description élaborée de la méthode de travail et de la structuration des données concernant lanalyse des formations et lenquête. La dernière partie est celle des résultats. Pour ce qui est de lanalyse des formations, nous regardons la situation en Europe, ainsi que loffre de cours des formations affiliées à lEMT et à la CIUTI en particulier, et nous la comparons à la situation au Canada. Nous consacrons aussi une petite partie à limportance des cours offerts où nous regardons si ces cours sont obligatoires ou non. Quant à lenquête, les informations principales discutées sont la fonction des répondants, lannée dobtention du diplôme, sils ont eu des cours de révision ou de post-édition et, sinon, comment ils ont acquis des connaissances en la matière. Nous concluons que loffre de cours de révision et de post-édition a augmenté au fil des années. La présence de cours en la matière dans les formations en traduction est néanmoins faible, mais celles qui en offrent y accordent beaucoup dimportance. Ce fait est confirmé par les résultats de lenquête, qui révèlent que la révision et la post-édition sapprennent en général sur le tas, au lieu de pendant les études. De plus, la post-édition est nettement moins représentée que la révision. En effet, la post-édition nest enseignée quen combinaison avec la révision et dans les formations au Canada, la post-édition occupe une partie négligeable.

Automating Linguistics offers an in-depth study of the history of the mathematisation and automation of the sciences of language. In the wake of the first mathematisation of the 1930s, two waves followed: machine translation in the 1950s and the development of computational linguistics and natural language processing in the 1960s. These waves were pivotal given the work of large computerised corpora in the 1990s and the unprecedented technological development of computers and software.Early machine translation was devised as a war technology originating in the sciences of war, amidst the amalgamate of mathematics, physics, logics, neurosciences, acoustics, and emerging sciences such as cybernetics and information theory. Machine translation was intended to provide mass translations for strategic purposes during the Cold War. Linguistics, in turn, did not belong to the sciences of war, and played a minor role in the pioneering projects of machine translation.Comparing the two trends, the present book reveals how the sciences of language gradually integrated the technologies of computing and software, resulting in the second-wave mathematisation of the study of language, which may be called mathematisation-automation. The integration took on various shapes contingent upon cultural and linguistic traditions (USA, ex-USSR, Great Britain and France). By contrast, working with large corpora in the 1990s, though enabled by unprecedented development of computing and software, was primarily a continuation of traditional approaches in the sciences of language sciences, such as the study of spoken and written texts, lexicography, and statistical studies of vocabulary.
