Magisterarbeit aus dem Jahr 2005 im Fachbereich Medien / Kommunikation - Medienökonomie, -management, Note: 1,0, Freie Universität Berlin (Publizistik und Kommunikationswissenschaft), Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die Digitalisierung des Fernsehens begann in Deutschland bereits Mitte der 90er Jahre. Im Sommer 1996 startete die digitale Pay-TV Plattform DF1, die heute zu Premiere World gehört. Bereits ein Jahr später starteten ARD, ZDF und RTL ebenfalls mit digitalen Angeboten. Die endgültige Digitalisierung des Fernsehens, die von der Bundesregierung für das Jahr 2010 angepeilt wird, könnte das Mediensystem ebenso nachhaltig verändern, wie es in den 80er Jahren durch die Einführung der Privatsender der Fall war. Während jedoch die Einführung des privaten Rundfunks neben den technischen Änderungen eine langanhaltende, ideologisch geprägte politische Kontroverse begleitete, scheint dies bei der Einführung der digitalen Technik nicht der Fall zu sein. Im Gegenteil. Wurde in den 80er Jahren noch viel über Sinn und Zweck von Rundfunk, sowie dessen inhaltliche Ausgestaltung debattiert, orientiert sich die Umstellung auf digitale Technik fast ausschließlich an ökonomischen Gesichtspunkten. Aus diesem Grund wird in dieser Arbeit, nachdem in Kapitel zwei und drei sowohl die Entstehung, wie auch die Entwicklung des Dualen Rundfunksystems bearbeitet wurden, in Kapitel fünf ein besonderer Schwerpunkt auf die ökonomischen Rahmenbedingungen gelegt. Eine intensive politische Kontroverse zum Thema Digitalisierung fand nicht mehr statt. Vielmehr entwickelte die vom Bundeswirtschaftsministerium eingesetzte „Initiative Digitaler Rundfunk“ ein Szenario, nachdem die Übertragung des analogen Rundfunksignals mit dem 01.Januar 2010 eingestellt wird. Zuverlässige Vorhersagen über die Auswirkung der Digitalisierung des Fernsehens auf das Duale Rundfunksystem lassen sich indes nur treffen, wenn zuvor die Entstehung und Entwicklung des Dualen Systems analysiert werden. Nur so lassen sich die in Kapitel fünf aufgestellten strategischen Optionen für die einzelnen Marktteilnehmer schlüssig begründen. Hierin besteht der eigentliche Schwerpunkt dieser Arbeit: Durch die genaue Beobachtung der Vergangenheit, strategische Optionen für die Zukunft festlegen zu können.
