Interfacing Humans And Robots For Gait Assistance And Rehabilitation written by Carlos A. Cifuentes and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-09-16 with Technology & Engineering categories.

The concepts represented in this textbook are explored for the first time in assistive and rehabilitation robotics, which is the combination of physical, cognitive, and social human-robot interaction to empower gait rehabilitation and assist human mobility. The aim is to consolidate the methodologies, modules, and technologies implemented in lower-limb exoskeletons, smart walkers, and social robots when human gait assistance and rehabilitation are the primary targets. This book presents the combination of emergent technologies in healthcare applications and robotics science, such as soft robotics, force control, novel sensing methods, brain-computer interfaces, serious games, automatic learning, and motion planning. From the clinical perspective, case studies are presented for testing and evaluating how those robots interact with humans, analyzing acceptance, perception, biomechanics factors, and physiological mechanisms of recovery during the robotic assistance or therapy. Interfacing Humans and Robots for Gait Assistance and Rehabilitation will enable undergraduate and graduate students of biomedical engineering, rehabilitation engineering, robotics, and health sciences to understand the clinical needs, technology, and science of human-robot interaction behind robotic devices for rehabilitation, and the evidence and implications related to the implementation of those devices in actual therapy and daily life applications.

Robot-assisted healthcare offers benefits for repetitive, intensive and task specific training compared to traditional manual manipulation performed by physiotherapists. However, a majority of existing rehabilitation devices use rigid actuators such as electric motors or hydraulic cylinders which cannot guarantee the safety of patients. This book provides biomedical engineering and robotics professionals and students with the fundamental mechatronic engineering knowledge to analyze and design new soft robotic devices. The authors present a systematic investigation of the design, modelling, methods, and control methods, implementation and novel applications of mechatronics to provide better clinical rehabilitation services and new insights into emerging technologies utilized in soft robots for healthcare.

Rehabilitation robotics is an important field of study focused on improving the gait rehabilitation of people affected by neurological disorders, ictus, cerebral palsy, and spinal cord injuries, among others. The study of rehabilitation robotics includes medical activities, kinematics dynamics, and control analysis. This book presents a complete and exhaustive analysis of the kinematics and dynamics of exoskeleton robots for rehabilitation. The forward and inverse kinematics are studied using the geometric, Denavit-Hartenberg, and screw theory approach. The dynamics analysis of exoskeleton robots using Newton-Euler, Euler–Lagrange, and D'Alembert formulation are also studied. Moreover, the main control techniques for exoskeleton robots are analyzed, including robust control, impedance control, adaptive control, Lyapunov functions, and uncertainties found in dynamic systems. The book includes MATLAB applications and examples.

Control Strategies For Robotic Exoskeletons To Assist Post Stroke Hemiparetic Gait written by Julio Salvador Lora Millán and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-06-05 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This book presents a new framework to improve the integration of exoskeletons in hemiparetic patients. The idea is to reduce potentially damaging compensatory strategies in the non-paretic leg, by ensuring a proper technology embodiment of the robotic exoskeletons in the nervous system. Upon reviewing control strategies for partial robotic exoskeletons applied to human gait, the book introduces robotic exoskeletons control algorithms, which were developed with the intention to promote gait symmetry by assisting the affected limb of hemiparetic patients according to the movement of the non-paretic leg. This new paradigm aimed at promoting the device's embodiment was expected to counteract the compensation mechanisms, which would become unnecessary and thus disappear. The control strategy relies on the gait phase estimation of the sound leg calculated using an adaptive frequency oscillator and was evaluated on post-stroke patients affected by hemiparetic gait, and the results are described in this book. All in all, this book offers a timely snapshot on control strategies for post-stroke robotic gait assistance. It also presents new findings concerning the role of robotic controllers in the embodiment of such devices, and their implications for new assistance paradigms for people with neurological gait disorders.
