Second language (L2) pronunciation has become increasingly visible as an important area of L2 teaching and research. Despite the growing number of resources available focused on L2 pronunciation, technology in L2 pronunciation has received much less attention. While technology has been an enduring strand of L2 pronunciation research, it has also been somewhat inconspicuous. Indeed, research has examined a wide variety of technologies such as language-learning platforms, speech visualization software, and Automatic Speech Recognition. Despite the abundance of research, it can be difficult to gain a full sense of work in this area given the lack of a comprehensive and consolidated resource or reference. This book endeavors to fill that gap and make L2 pronunciation technologies more visible by providing teachers and researchers an introduction to research in a wide variety of technologies that can support pronunciation learning. While working to introduce practitioners to numerous technologies available, it also dives into the research-basis for their use, providing new studies and data featuring a wide variety of languages and learning contexts.

With the majority of the world population speaking more than one language, cross-language interactions associated with bi- and multilingual language processing have recently received much scholarly attention. While we know from psycholinguistic research that multilingualism modulates cognitive mechanisms of language processing, previous studies have concentrated selectively on specific aspects and/or stages of language processing with little cross-disciplinary insight into multilingualism. This contribution aims to systematize our knowledge of multilingual language processing by providing a comprehensive overview of the effects observed at the level of sub-lexical (orthographic and phonological), lexico-semantic, and discourse processing. Further, since comprehensive studies of multilingualism require other areas of research (e.g., psychology, sociology, and linguistics), the present volume will bring together multiple fields, methods, and perspectives to provide a cross-disciplinary and diverse overview of the effects of multilingualism.

This book offers an in-depth exploration of the unique landscape of Chinese language learning and teaching in Canada. It is the first to highlight the distinctive features of Chinese language education in the country and to introduce the Canadian approach to teaching and researching Chinese language, termed the "Canadian school of Chinese education." This approach, largely unfamiliar to the global academic community, is illuminated in this book, filling a critical gap in the literature and providing a platform for Canadian voices and perspectives in the field. The book delves into original and under-investigated areas, addressing important issues in Chinese teaching and learning that require more sophisticated research approaches due to advancements in our understanding and the discovery of complex Chinese learner populations. Structured into four sections, the book offers an overview of Chinese language education in Canada, examines comparisons of learning conditions, explores interactive dynamics and communication strategies, and delves into social and cultural dimensions. This book will be invaluable to researchers, instructors, advanced-level undergraduate students, and graduate students in the field of Chinese language learning and teaching.
